Went here for a party of 3, and we ordered drinks, sandwiches, and a bowl of soup. The waiter who took our order seemed very tired with no smile at all, so i just assumed maybe he wasn’t in the mood, which was totally fine. However, my friend ordered all at once, but i guess the waiter didn’t catch that we were sharing everything, so when we got our dishes, we asked for cutlery. He just turned right back without any reply and left the cutlery on the table. The thing is, he did not give us share plates and did not bother to come and check how things were, so i tried to make an eye contact to show that we needed something. 2 waiters saw me, but one ignored and the other went to another table to take their order. I thought he would get back to us, but unsurprisingly, he did not. Okay, I guess they did not recognize me, so I went all the way near the kitchen and asked for some share plate. Nobody asked how the food was just until i paid for our bills. It was a bit uncomfortable that the person who helped us with the bills showed us a handwritten bill and asked, “is this your bill?” Well, first of all, it was a bunch of scribbles that I could hardly recognize what was written, and secondly, how can I, as a customer, know which handwritten bill belongs to myself? I mean, is it my job? So i replied i am not sure and he asked me “were you at table 6?” For that question, i do not know either since when the waiter guided us for the sitting he did not say anything but just a hand gesture to a booth table. Therefore, he went to another waiter and asked what our bill was. And even while he was punching in all the orders on the cash till, he kept asking me what sandwiches we ordered while showing me the handwritten bill . It was a very odd experience for me since i’ve seen so many good reviews on Google and was very excited to try out somewhere in a different area. Very disappointing....
Read moreWhere to start with this place? First of all it probably has the best atmosphere of any restaurant I've ever been to. It's so relaxing. Everything is hand made and natural, wood tables and chairs with leather coverings (I wish I had pictures) I want to say it's candle lit, but I don't think it is, but it feels like that when I remember, so it may as well be.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's a religious colony that have a couple delis and bakeries, this being one of them. I sure everything is hand made, the food and the deli itself. It has such a warm inviting feel here. I'm nonreligious and this place is discreet about it's beliefs. The food is really good, the bread specifically and if you're lucky enough to go on YAM SOUP day, you'll be figuring out the recipe once you leave and making your own in the future, it's THAT good. They use really high quality fresh ingredients and I always have a custom sandwich when I go there.
The staff are really friendly, accommodating and peaceful. There really is no other place I've gone to like it, and I have a hobby of trying new delis and restaurants. The only one thing I don't like about it is that some of the seating is a little close, but other than that I would describe this place as almost perfect. I live a considerable distance from this place (1 hour drive plus) and I make the effort to come here at least once a month. This is one of the rare places I would give more than 5 stars if I could. Absolutely perfect for date night. Very romantic environment. I can't say enough good things about the deli.
Oh, and the bakery next door is awesome too, they sell bread that put's...
Read moreThe yellow deli is a vibe - fiddle music playing, very eclectic wooden interior and is known for being run by a cult. However, I wouldn’t let that stop you from visiting and here’s why. We ordered the Deli Rose, Turkey Rancher and Iced Chai Latte. Their sandwiches were probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Generous with the toppings ( a real mouthful) and does a good job of displaying how fresh, simple ingredients can taste great. I believe it’s farm to table, or they at least source most ingredients locally. The Turkey Rancher was a lighter, more refreshing sandwich as it’s packed with veggie - this was my favourite. However, if you like a meaty sandwich, Deli Rose is definitely the way to go. I think the bread was a game changer, it was soft and fluffy, but also composed itself so it didn’t fall apart as you were eating it. It was just well rounded, decent portion size and left me very content. As for the Chai Latte, I liked that as well. Not too sweet, definitely doesn’t taste like your typical coffee shop Chai Latte, but it’s different in a good way. I can’t explain the flavour, but apparently it’s one of their most popular drinks.
Overall, for the price and quality of food, it’s definitely worth it. The vibe is quirky, but the staff are friendly and I didn’t feel uncomfortable/weird while dining in. It’s definitely a must-try if you like sandwiches and a place I’ll be returning to whenever I’m...
