I've come here maybe 4 or 5 times now. Usually the food is good, nothing special but tastes ok. The last 2 times I came here I ordered Sockeye Salmon Sashimi. They served complimentary edamame every time except for tonight. I saw other tables had theirs but decided to pass on it anyway and not say anything. Both last time (~1 month ago) and tonight the daikon under my sashimi was MOLDY!!! I didn't mention it to my server last time because I didn't want to make a big deal out of it and figured it was a one time thing. Tonight, however, I quietly mentioned it to my server. She said she would let the kitchen staff know. When I went up to pay, I mentioned it again to the lady at the counter and she apologized and said they had just received fresh vegetables this morning. I said I'm quite certain the daikon is moldy and I know what mold tastes like (I've worked in kitchens for over 10 years). I went on to tell her I was disappointed that they were still charging me the full price for a meal that may make me ill and that it was not the first time that I found the daikon to be moldy. She said she could not offer me any type of discount. They didn't even try to make it right, just made excuses that the owner was not there and there was nothing she could do, the vegetables came this morning from their supplier, etc. She then asked me to leave my name and number. When I got a call tonight they said they could offer me 10% off of my next visit or I could come in to be refunded 10% of my $13.00 meal. No thank you. I will no longer support such an establishment that doesn't care about the quality of the food they serve nor their customers' health and satisfaction. Food safety is kind...
Read moreIt’s a cozy restaurant so for that I give it one star. ( and because There is no lower choice). I ordered tea and when that came it was barely lukewarm. I then ordered the seafood dinner box #36 for $19.95. First I was served miso soup and when my dinner came I was rather disappointed at the teeny tiny serving of Sunomono salad. It’s pretty cheap to make, they could have been a little more generous with the serving size which could’ve fit in a shot glass. The California rolls tasted a bit stale, 2 thin strips of teriyaki salmon on rice and cabbage with a tiny mussel in shell on the side. The shrimp tempura was average as was the 2 pieces of nigiri. Once you get your food you are totally forgotten. I had to practically beg for a refill of tea (which was served hot this time). With so many staff members there the service should have been much better, the place was not busy. Staff was too busy mopping the floors rather than taking care of customers. Food is sub par. With so many sushi joints around town I don’t feel the need to go back to Maru Japanese any time soon. Not when you pay over $20 for food that is “Meh” and...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try this local place when we were walking around the neighborhood on Saturday. We stepped inside around 6:30- there were other tables in the restaurant but it wasn’t that busy. We waited a few minutes and no one greeted us, so we took a couple of menus and looked while we waited. Soon, an Asian family of four came in behind us. They were greeted right away, and we were ignored, even though we were standing directly in front of them. A waiter took them to their table and we continued to wait. Still, no one had even said hello to us. Finally after around 5 more minutes I flagged someone down- we decided to get takeout instead. We put in our order and were told 10-15 minutes wait. We sat on the bench there and waited, and no one called our name or anything. Finally another customer told us that they saw our order sitting on the counter waiting for us. We ate it, and the sushi was fine, but we will never be back. This experience was bizarre and we were both stunned at the lack of service they offered us. It made us both feel very unwanted. We will gladly take our...
