We had the most terrible experience here! I’m still absolutely flabbergasted! We were sitting down for the evening chatting, eating and watching the baseball game. We had a perfect spot where we could all watch the game, still see each other & chat and no one had to crane their neck around. The food was okay, nothing special, but, it was okay. Overcooked, mushy noodles in a noodle bowl and not very good enchiladas along with a mediocre Thai salad and a kid’s quesadilla meal. We had been in the restaurant for well over an hour when the channel changed to something else. No problem, we flagged down the waitress and told her we were watching that game and she said oh sorry, what game was it? We told her and she said no problem she’d have it switched back. The tv channels start flipping around and it switched back and forth a few times until several minutes later it switches back to an nfl game and she comes back and points at a tv down at the other end and says sorry it’s on there now. We couldn’t see the tv it was behind us and at an angle you just couldn’t see from where we were sitting and had an enormous amount of reflection on it anyways. So, we said no, we can’t see that, can you please put it back on this tv and explained this is an elimination game in the playoffs etc. She said yes she’d go tell them to switch it. Nothing happened for several more minutes and then another woman comes around from elsewhere in the restaurant and tells us ya sorry there’s some people over there who want to watch the other game and she points off into the lounge area through a window. We must have looked at her with our mouths hanging open because she just stood there for a second and then started explaining again that well some other people came in and want to watch this other game (which at this point was on basically all the other tvs in the place) she argumentatively spoke to my dad for another moment and I just told her enough of this we are leaving, we don’t need to hear why these other people are so much more important than us and I told her to go get the bill right now please. We still stood there for several more minutes waiting to pay the bill. Our waitress looked like she felt terrible about it, but, nothing she could do if her management chooses to act this way. Read moreMy husband and I tried this restaurant out twice when it first opened both times we were served undercooked chicken (raw in the centre the second time) the response from the manger the first time was to give us two $10 vouchers to come back again. We weren't very happy with that but we came back anyway only to receive chicken that was actually raw in the middle and when we complained the waitress became very abrasive with us. We then spoke with the manger and said we were not paying for that dish and he did agree and apologize. We just recently decided to give it one last shot. When we entered the restaurant three women were behind the counter two of them greeted us and the third looked somewhat angry. The one that looked angry ended up being our server. When she approached our table she didn't say hi or how are you, she just looked at us and said "what do you want to drink" she did not smile and had a tone that made us feel very uncomfortable. When we were ordering our food she rolled her eyes twice, said very rudely " that comes with two sides what do you want!" to my husband, this was the first time she rolled her eyes, I asked for no feta on my salad and this was the second time she rolled her eyes. Her attitude made us feel very unwelcome and the speed in which she moved was very slow, it really felt like she didn't want to be there. We asked to speak to a manager and the woman on duty was very polite however seemed not to know what to do. She offered us a different server however we were no longer interested in spending our money at the restaurant. So when we told her we were going to leave and to cancel our food she didn't say anything she just walked away, which was very confusing. I will say I went one other time with a friend and while the server again was slow and seemed disinterested in her customers, the food was for the most part quite good. The bang bang shrimp was very yummy however some of the batter wasn't cooked, the gogi tacos are delicious though. Overall we have decided not to go back for good this time. Read moreThe bad experience started once we were seated at a dirty table and booth that no one took the time to clean. Our orders were taken shortly after. After that we waited for our food for over 45 minutes during which time we never saw our server once. Our food was brought to the table by another server and once again there was no one to follow up on the first few bites (common theme among most restaurants). To top off the horrendous service was an over cooked burger with wilted lettuce.
I believe company culture starts from the top down. I would recommend the book "Extreme Ownership" to the management at this restaurant. There are some valuable lessons that could be applied to this place.
I thought this might just be a one off experience until I read some of the other reviews and saw a common theme of bad service and bad food. I take responsibility for failing to read the reviews before we decided to take our family for a lunch out.
Should have stuck to Joey's, Earl's, or the Keg as they never seem to disappoint!
August 14th, 2019 Update
As per the reply from State and Main on the original review I have contacted customer service to which they apologized for the bad experience and have offered a gift certificate and urged us to give the Spruce Grove location another try.
I am always interested at supporting local business so I plan on giving the location another shot at gaining our repeat business.
I plan on updating this review once again after we try another meal at this location. If the food and service are good I have no problem changing this review to a 5 star rating!
