I’ve had food from this restaurant back to when it was called Double Dragon. Back then, I wasn’t a big fan and would rarely get it, but a friend worked there and would occasionally bring mediocre at best leftovers home.
Since it’s been A1 Delights, it’s improved. I’ve been to the buffet several times since, and was actually pretty impressed the last times we went. The food was plentiful and tasted good, but it wasn’t cheap and didn’t measure up to The Mandarin, obviously.
Unfortunately, the buffet is only open on weekends.
Anyhow, my family recently ordered takeout from this restaurant for the first time. To be honest, we only did this because it was the only one that would deliver. I looked forward to eating it, but ended up being underwhelmed.
Frankly, there wasn’t much taste to anything. Not the rice, not the vegetable dishes and not the chicken balls. The pad Thai was alright, but at least two of the dishes we got may as well have been called ‘broccoli with a couple of other things.’ The containers were half or more full of massive pieces of broccoli. Yes, broccoli is good, but it’s cheap and an obvious cost cutting measure, while we spent good money on this food.
I ate a lot of it, but wasn’t that impressed. It wasn’t as good as the buffet, that’s for sure, and the spring rolls were not very appealing. I ate two, and kind of gagged due to the strong flavour of the second one.
I guess you could say this one is hit and miss, but I won’t be ordering takeout from...
Read moreThis place was good when it first opened. I used to always get the same dish. The prices have recently gone through the roof, which I can not understand because there are other Chinese food places a little further east that charge far less. I know all their supplies come from the same place, so what gives? What adds to the insult is that the portions seem smaller and the dishes are always wrong, especially the Cantonese chow mien. I used to be a cook in a Chinese restaurant and that particular dish comes with the following: snow peas, small corn, water chestnut, bamboo shoots, boc choy, mushrooms, onions, shrimp, pork and chicken (or cat, which looks like chicken but is more tender). The Cantonese chow mien they serve now does not have snow peas, corn, chesnut, bamboo or boc choy. It does have whatever seems to be the cheapest vegetables that can be bought at the local grocery store. Carrots are always in my chow mien, lately, which has never traditionally been part of the dish. The last time, there was even cabbage in it. If they are going to continue raising the price of this dish, at least put the proper items in it and not some cheap garbage they seem to be trying...
Read moreHad A1 many years ago and really enjoyed it than. My husband and I were craving Chinese tonight so we thought we would try from here again, via Uber Eats. The food arrived hot & quick but unfortunately, it was not good at all. The chicken balls were all batter and left a grose film on the roof of my mouth, the chicken chow mein had gigantic blobs of boiled "chicken", that didn't look like chicken at all and had to be picked out and tossed. The "jumbo" sweet and sour shrimp was no where near jumbo and left the same mouth feel as the chicken balls. The only decent thing was the chicken lo'mein (when we picked the questionable chicken out of it). Unfortunately, we won't be ordering from here again as the quality of the meal did not match the high...
