We came here a while back. I really wanted to like this place, as my mom and her friends love it. It's not that the place is bad, the food seemed good and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. My order, however, was unpleasant. The idea and concept sounds great for the dish, unfortunately, the sandwich was executed poorly that day.
I ordered the Pulled Pork Truffle Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese. I had heard rave reviews about it, and I can imagine how amazing it could be. But the grilled cheese part of the sandwich was soggy, like, really soggy and greasy. I mentioned it to the server who said they would fix it for me. When it returned, it looked like it had been reheated, as it had the same texture and consistency as when I first received it, which was greasy and falling apart. There was absolutely no way to hold this in your hands as the bread would of broke apart and began dripping due to how soggy it was.
I was with family for a special occasion and I did not want to make a scene/ruin the vibe, as everyone else seemed to really be enjoying their food. I was the only one who ordered the sandwich and I decided to just treat it like an open-faced sandwich. I can see how this can go right and also how it can go wrong.
The flavours were good, but again, this specific sandwich seemed so greasy compared to what I had seen in my mom's leftovers, which was a sandwich you could hold in your hand. I am down for greasy fried food, but when it is so greasy that it breaks apart instead holding together, it is not enjoyable. Perhaps the sandwich was put together too early and it sat, soaking up the grease, waiting for other dishes to be prepared. Who knows. Not worth 20$ to eat soggy bread with macaroni and cheese on top...
Whatever the case may have been, I am still willing to try the restaurant again as the beverages were delightful and everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. There are not many great restaurants in Bowmanville and I hope the Yardbird sticks around...
Read moreSo went here the other day. It was our first time and based on the high rating we were quite excited. The restaurant itself is very small but cozy, dim lighting. We ordered shrimp cakes and steak tartare for starters (they were out of soup) by 2pm. Shrimp cakes were good, not a lot of flavor. The steak tartare I found to be very salty along with the bread served with it, it’s texture and presentation were good. For our main we ordered the glass noodle and broccoli salad, as told by waitress it was egg noodles and not glass noodles. Fine. The noodles were actually more like a fettuccine noodle. The noodles were very hard. The dressing was tasty but for the amount you pay this was extremely disappointing. We then ordered the Croque Monsieur on Sourdough. This was okay but I feel I could have done just as good a job if I made it myself. The waitress was nice but never came to clear our table of excess bottle of water or beer so we just placed it on the table beside us to make room at our small table. She only came by to serve and not to offer second rounds of drinks and had to be waved over for more water. The restaurant wasn’t busy at this time. I didn’t think parking was an issue as it was around the corner in behind and the month of December is free. I really wanted to love this place but for the price and quality of the food I think this is a one...
Read moreGreat ambiance, good staff, top notch flavours.
My wife and I passed by this restaurant late one night coming back from a visit to Bowmanville, and mistakenly wrote down an incorrect name for the restaurant. After a few days of trying to find the spot based on the wrong name, someone recommended the restaurant to us and it clicked that this was the restaurant we were looking for!
We planned a trip to Bowmanville for dinner at The Yardbird when a friend visited from out of town. We made a reservation and the staff surprised us when they called us by name as we entered just on time. The ambiance was excellent, the staff were very polite and considerate, and the menu was very unique. All three of us ordered different dishes. My wife and I really enjoyed our dishes (pictured). The one sore spot was that our friend who ordered the risotto really did not enjoy her meal, and felt like her dish had simply been heated up and not made fresh from her experience making the dish herself. We opted to skip out on dessert and head somewhere else to continue the night so that she could be comfortable and enjoy some different food and dessert. Overall, a decent experience, but we definitely felt bad for our friend who we...
