Hubby and I justhappened upon this place while in the Mississauga Flea Market on a chilly Saturday afternoon in February. What impressed us initially was the friendliness of the owners and staff. Their willingness to tell us their amazing story and then to entice us into trying the chicken burgers was really refreshing , they had us at "the chicken is marinated for 24 hours." Hubby is African American , I'm Guyanese Canadian and we react to the word marinating much like how Pavlov's Dog reacts to the sound of the bell. They mentioned that instead of putting the chicken thighs between regular burger buns, they had the brilliant idea of using Guyanese Tennis rolls , WHAT ????? He had the Motherclucker Burger , I had the Son of a Clucker Burger and we shared the Cajun fries with curry sauce. We won't soon forget sitting down and taking that first bite of our chicken burgers , it was an experience. The soft subtle sweetness of the tennis roll combined with the audible crunch of the delicious fried chicken with siratcha slaw made both hubby and I glance at each other like we did when we first fell in love, except this time it was the burger that was the subject of our love. All we could do is gaze into each other's eyes with our mouths full enjoying the sloppy messiness of this wonderful afternnon encounter , I may have heard Barry White in the background . The heat of the fire aioli awakening our tastebuds then slowly dripping past our lips and in between our fingers as we tried to lick every drop reminded me of a scene in the movie 91/2 Weeks ( for those who are old enough to remember) I'm surprised Security didn't approach us to tell us to exit the premises and get a room ! In between the rapture of eating the burger and with our messy fingers , we dipped the well seasoned crisp Cajun fries into the mild yet flavorful curry sauce . Neither one of us smoke, but after having the absolute pleasure of eating a Leguan chicken burger, we certainly needed a cigarette.
I strongly recommend Leguan for anyone that enjoys a good chicken burger, not made the usual way with fillers ,etc....this here is...
Read more!!! HIDDEN GEM ALERT !!! A few days ago we discovered one of the best fried chicken sandos Mississauga has to offer!
Leguan is the newest local food stall in the game created by a couple of burnt out nurses looking to share their love of food with their community one sando at a time (or more, we wouldn’t blame you)
So here’s all that we tried:
The Mother Clucker (chicken) The Fancy Cow (beef) The Dirty Bird Poutine Curry Stix Quicksand and Fossils (Birthday cake dip + Biscuits)
I can’t even begin to tell you how delicious and filling this feast was !!!
The chicken sando was massive as you can already tell, super saucy and with a spicy kick, extremely yummy ;)
If you’re in the mood for something not chicken they also have a thiccc beef burger that’s classic cheeseburger style with melty cheese but with a twist of caramelized onions that are just … perfect !!!
The poutine omgg it was packedddd as you can see there was a generous amount of fried chicken tenders in there, sauced up with the cheese and gravy and garnish it was poutine on a whole other level, I’m not even much of a fries girl and I throughly enjoyed this ;)
I also absolutely relished the Cajun fries with the curry gravy, it was so tasty and thicc apparently an Irish take on Indian curry, so unique yet delicious!
Lastly the birthday cake dip took me back to my childhood when I could look forward to recess and eating my dunkaroos, so creative to use it as a dessert :P
Thank you so much Josh & Charish for having us, wishing you both all the success with your business! Can’t wait to see your growth !!!
So what are y’all waiting for, go check them out y’all :) you can find them in the Mississauga flea market serving up their...
Read moreIf it weren’t for the invite to the Yelp experience, I would’ve never know about Leguan and their chicken sandwiches! I drive by Mavis and Dundas a million times and have never stepped foot into the flea market there. Luckily Leguan was easy to find and is right by the front doors. The cute stall is small, with 2 deep fryers, grill and small counter. There are displays of their mentions by local publications and a sandwich and poutine on display, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
The girl was friendly and I checked in and selected the honey clucker and cajun fries. I would’ve picked Son of a Clucker because I like spicy foods, but I was with my daughter that time and I wanted to pick something she would eat. The girl was nice enough to separate my order of fries into one pack without spices and the other tossed in the cajun spice - my daughter ended up eating all my cajun fries! They had the perfect crunch and the seasoning was flavourful with a hint of sweetness to it.
Now, the chicken burger. It was a huge portion of deep fried chicken thigh, cooked perfectly, super juicy. The honey glaze was not too sweet and didn’t make the chicken any less crunchy. My only recommendation is that they use a bigger or fuller bun to hold up again the chicken. When I unpacked the sandwich, the 2 sides of the buns were squashed down flat. As a bonus (I think?) was the Quicksand and Fossil - a pack of Walmart mini chocolate chip cookies and frosting with sprinkles on the side.
Would I go back? Maybe.. but now, at least I...
