I was excited to find a small business to support and had been coming here consistently in the mornings. Today I tried their matcha cookie which unfortunately had raisins in it and I was not aware it would have raisins. The sign indicates it has white chocolate and cranberries - they were not cranberries.
I went back to get a refund for the cookie. The barista called the owner/manager over and although she did give me a refund for the $6 cookie, she also proceeded to gaslight me and argue with me telling me that they were cranberries, not raisins. I assured her that I know what dried cranberries not only taste like, but what they look like. I hate raisins and I made 100% sure they were raisins before I took the time out of my busy day to drive back there for a refund - I would not risk driving back for a refund if I didn’t know 100% that there was an undisclosed ingredient in my cookie that would guarantee a refund.
She continued to argue with me trying to say they are cranberries and when I told her I could get the cookie from the bag and show her that they are raisins, she snatched the cookie off the counter so I wouldn’t have a chance to show her. I understand if you run out of an ingredient and have to make a substitution but please do not gaslight paying customers and try to make them feel crazy. If they were actually cranberries like she had stated, she wouldn’t have had to give me a refund at all because the sign says there are cranberries in the cookie, therefore I would have no grounds to receive a refund as the ingredients are noted. The only reason she gave me a refund was because she knew they were raisins - most likely ran out of cranberries and had to substitute.
I didn’t appreciate her arguing with me and gaslighting me over such a simple thing where she could have been honest. I won’t be returning for my morning coffees and it’s a shame they lost a customer over such a...
Read moreI absolutely love blackberry cafe for their drinks and pastries! Everything has such incredible flavour and you can really taste the love. The tiramisu is one of my favourites, it actually tastes like a delicious real tiramisu and not many places can capture that flavour but this one definitely does. The matcha latte is also one of my favs- so delicious and tastes just like a warm hug.
My only complaint is their inconsistency of their presentation of the Tiramisu. I absolutely loved it when it was in a box packaging because it felt more like a home-made feel (photo #1). It had also a perfect portion of the tiramisu when it was in a box and the flavour was more potent cause there was an equal amount of the bottom part as the top part. Around February they had changed it to a smaller container and kept the price the same but they had a cute little Tiramisu chocolate on top which made me a little less disappointed of the downgrade (photo#2). Since the container was also tapered you got less flavour of the bottom and around this time i started going to the cafe way less cause I didn’t find it as worth it. Now they downgraded even more and don’t even have the little tiramisu labeled chocolate on their tiramisu so i probably go once a month instead of weekly because they just kept downgrading and still wayy less of the bottom flavour cause of the tapered container (photo#3). It’s sad that the minor changes to the only thing that made me a regular customer and that i’d tell my fellow tiramisu lovers to go try had downgraded and made me stop going at all and had made me stop promoting the cafe.
Other than that it is a cute cafe that has yummy pastries, good drinks, relaxing atmosphere, and good service but I just wish they were more consistent with their products and kept that...
Read morePrepare to be welcomed by a swift smell of insanely good, strong smelling roasted coffee beans when you walk in. Gotta love that smell especially in the morning of cold rainy day.
This place has that cozy, cabin feel and has quite few seats available on a regular day. Only few seats are available atm though due to Covid's social distancing protocol. The servers here are also super friendly and nice, but that's the only thing that stands out for us.
We ordered a latte and cappuccino and we both agreed that both drinks had very faint coffee taste and rather taste more like just hot milk. Food-wise they have the usual offerings of muffins, wraps, sandwiches, bars and the likes, and what looks like some crostata from Gabi&Jules handmade pies if you've ever been there. The one thing that they do right here is how they warm up the food. Some places would just nuke them in the microwave and things get soggy and gross. At least they prepare your order correctly so the wrap that we got is properly pressed and the crostata keeps their crisp exterior which makes a huge difference.
We'll prob be back again if we're in the area since there aren't many other coffee shops available around that block and service is awesome. But if we could, we prefer other shops that are few blocks away...
