TL:DR - the food took nearly an hour and a half to arrive. Go somewhere else.
And now for the details. I've been to this Milestone's several times, and have had mostly decent experiences, but my most recent experience demanded an update to my previously positive review.
Milestone's is a consistent, comfortable chain that could just as easily be an Earl's, or a slightly more upscale White Spot. The food is good, and they have a decent selection. It is largely unremarkable, but it is a good option if you're looking for a safe bet; particularly if you have a group that can't make a decision. Want pasta? Fish? Steak? Don't worry - you'll be able to find an option here. It won't be as remarkable as a specialty restaurant, but it won't be bad. Ordinarily, that would earn a 3.5-star review...they aren't great, but you get what you expect.
Service is usually pretty good too, with friendly staff. The gloss on their smiles tends to fade a bit during stressful times, and they often seem to be a bit short-staffed. This was never more apparent as it was yesterday.
We decided to go for a brunch for Father's Day. We were seated pretty quickly, and got our orders in relatively shortly thereafter. After a 30-minute wait, our server came back to tell us that there was some delay due to several large groups (that we couldn't see anywhere in the restaurant), and that our order was next, and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
25 minutes later, the manager came by to explain that our orders were in 'the middle', and would require another 20 minutes. When I mentioned that we'd just surpassed a 15-minute ETA, he adjusted his estimate to "10 or maybe 12 minutes more", and offered me a glass of wine or some spinach dip to make up for the delay. We opted to just wait for our meal.
After another 25 minutes and a total wait time of 1:20, our food arrived. We were given a 30% discount on our bill (around $20).
The food was good, our server was apologetic and very obviously stressed about the situation. She mentioned that Mother's Day was even worse, and that's the chief reason for the low rating.
I understand that there will be unforeseen situations that put huge delays on the kitchen, but this wasn't unforeseen. Father's Day happens every year, and if management chooses not to staff accordingly, they're making a deliberate decision to sacrifice the diner's experience, and that's the kind of place I'll encourage...
Read moreIt’s been years since I’ve been to milestones and been meaning to go. I decided to treat my mum to a nice dinner here as it had been forever for both of us.
I’ll start with the food. My mum ordered the wagyu beef meatloaf. It looked really delicious. My mum thoroughly enjoyed it - felt like she was on cloud 9 with this dish lol. She couldn’t stop raving about her dish even when we got home! Unfortunately I didn’t get to try it.
I had the stuffed portobello mushroom cap which their menu said is vegan (which is great coz I can’t eat anything else with dairy). Unfortunately my dish came with a lot of issues. After we ordered, our server came back a few minutes later to let me know the kitchen was out of the pilaf (which was supposed to be the base of the dish) so she asked if I wanted jasmine rice or extra veggies and I was like yes that’s totally fine. Anyways my dish arrived and the person who brought my dish (not our server) let me know that the kitchen chose to leave out the basil sauce and leeks - leeks because of cross contamination with dairy and the basil sauce because it sometimes contains dairy (I found this really weird because this dish was said to be vegan on the menu and there should not be any dairy in vegan dishes - so why say it is vegan if the basil sauce ‘may contain dairy’?). Our server walked by a few minutes after that and we tried to ask her for the basil sauce but she thought we were asking for the extra veggies she agreed to earlier which she brought but didn’t bring the basil sauce. Either way though the dish was still delicious - I wish I could I could’ve tried the whole package but that’s okay!
Service was wonderful overall - our server was friendly and made sure we felt welcomed.
Would I be back? Maybe - not very often but maybe one more time to give them...
Read moreI hate to do this. I really do. But when somthing is this bad I have to warn everyone before they make the same mistake I made and 2 of my family members made.
Do not. I repeat, do not, get the prime rib from this establishment. I mean I am already not a huge fan of chain restraunts, but to list somthing on your menu and completely fail on the execution is uterly unacceptable.
I was aleady weary when this slab of meat showed up infront of me. It looked, un-appetizing to say the least. The “seasonal veggies” which consisted of mostly steamed string beans, and couple roasted red pepper and onion. This begs the question, why were the string beans also not pan fried or tossed or just anything done to them besides just being steamed!?
I chose to get fries instead of the roasted garlic mash or the rice pilaf (gross). The fries were probably the worst chain restaurant fries I’ve had in a while. Besides being room temperature and for some reason tough. As in tough too chew, like if the fries were stale and then refried... un explainable
On to the main event, the prime rib. No trace of juice upon my first cut into the meat. As I put the room temperature piece of meat in my mouth and begin to chew, I could tell the texture was not right. It tasted like... nothing. No beef flavor, seasoning flavour from the crust, even the fatty bits tasted like what I could beat describe as unflavoured jello. This meat was so dry it makes jack links seem juicy.
By now you’re wondering why I haven’t said anything about my food to my server. First of all I’m huge advocate of not wasting food. Even though this dish was mediocre at best, I ate it. I was not happy about it, and that is why I am writing this review. Secondly have you watched the movie Waiting?
Service was not...
