Back in 2019 we went for High Tea at Cakes n Sweets in Coquitlam. All of us loved it back then and when we found ourselves wanting to go for High Tea again recently, we could think of no better place to go than to Cakes n Sweets. We were a party of five and two of us (our daughter and myself) had a Vegetarian High Tea while the other three had the regular High Tea. I was pleased to learn that they could offer a Vegetarian menu as there's no mention of it on their website.Over the years, High Tea has become extraordinarily expensive. When we went to Cakes n Sweets back in 2019, it was the only place where we could get High Tea for less then $30 per person. The price has gone up slightly fromĀ what it was previously. It's now $33 per person; however, that's still a lot less than what most other places charge. For High Tea, it's still the best deal I know of.
Most of us had tea; however, there was one person in our group who doesn't like tea and so she opted for hot chocolate instead. What a delight it was to see that they served the hot chocolate in a teapot just like the rest of us who were having tea. The food was superb, just as it was the last time we came; however, there was one item that had changed and that was the egg salad sandwich. When we came back in 2019, they served us egg salad sandwiches inside mini croissants. This time they used regular sandwich bread. Our daughter and I would have much preferred them to have used the mini croissants again. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 since they now use regular sandwich bread instead of the mini croissants. Other than that, the food was wonderful. Parking is plentiful and free, and the service was excellent. The lady who served our table was delightfully bubbly and cheerful! I would highly recommend coming to Cakes n Sweets...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo many things going for this place and some things they really need to refine. Itās clear their forte is in baking and not in hosting.
The scones were the best Iāve had in memory. Iāve had tea at some of the best places in London , Paris, and Vancouver so this surprised me. Their jam was acceptable, while their cream tasted like runny whipping cream.
The sandwich tier only had cucumber and mayo side sandwiches (beautifully presented but I prefer the cucumber sandwich with cream cheese, the mayo made it greasy and warm) and mini quiches (exceptional).
The dessert tier was fine. The strength was in their tiny cupcake which was moist and the butter cream light. The macaron shell was thick and hard and the center didnāt have the proper chewiness expected of a macaron. More like a sweet meringue.
The service was attentive and considerate but minor tea details and accoutrements were lacking. The tea pots were humble squat carafes with plastic lids: a simple ceramic tea pot would have been more pretty. The decor and table setting wasnāt very aesthetically pleasing. Iām surprised to hear other reviewers found it cute.
They had display cakes showing the bakers artistry and the baker does in fact have some major skill. Also the prices on the desserts and cupcakes to go look both fair and appetizing enough. So. Come for an average tea with some surprise sparks but donāt expect the royal tea experience from here yet. Still prefer Adorabelle,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy recent visit with my family was a truly delightful experience. We couldn't resist trying a range of treats, including a Chocolate Ganache, a Pop Cake, Orange Spice Tea, and Harmony Tea, and we were not disappointed.
The Chocolate Ganache was an absolute standout. It was a perfect blend of richness and lightness, creating a delicious cake that left us craving for more. As for the Pop Cake, I can't provide my own verdict because my little son couldn't get enough of it ā a clear sign of its kid-friendly appeal.
Both the Orange Spice Tea and Harmony Tea were equally praiseworthy. They offered a delightful infusion of flavors that was both light and incredibly tasty, making our overall experience that much more enjoyable.
The exceptional customer service we received cannot go without mention. The staff's welcoming and friendly demeanor added an extra layer of warmth to our visit.
Despite the bakery's small size, it exuded a chic and cozy ambiance that made us feel right at home. The warm and welcoming atmosphere only enhanced our experience.
In conclusion, our visit was a delightful journey into the world of delectable treats and soothing teas. The impressive taste of the Chocolate Ganache, friendly customer service, and inviting atmosphere all combine to make this bakery a must-visit. We look forward to returning for more scrumptious...
