I'm Korean-American and I have never been treated this way in my life in the states. I've been a frequent visitor to this Starbucks (superstore lougheed) often stopping in multiple times a day to charge my EV and grab a coffee. Despite being a regular customer, I have never been greeted once during my visits. In contrast, I've observed that Caucasian customers are greeted almost 90% of the time when they walk in. A few weeks ago, however, I experienced an incident that left me very upset.
During a quick bathroom break that lasted less than five minutes, both restrooms were occupied. A couple waiting outside decided to leave after only about 30 seconds of waiting. What shocked me was how differently the staff treated their impatience compared to mine.
Moments after they left, a Caucasian male staff in his late 20s, wearing glasses, knocked on the door of my restroom. I responded, but he proceeded to open the door with his keys, insisting I hadn't answered. When I confronted him, he blamed me for his intrusion, claiming I hadn't responded quickly enough.
What upset me the most is that less than five minutes in the restroom seemed enough for the staff to prioritize serving impatient customers over respecting my privacy. There was no immediate apology for the intrusion into my personal space, only a dismissal of my concerns.
I believe that regardless of the circumstances, customers deserve basic respect and privacy. Whether it's a matter of safety or simple courtesy, crossing the line into personal space without acknowledgment or immediate apology is...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. I placed my mobile order online, and I specifically selected "In store pick up" because I know this particular location always has a long drive-thru lineup. When I arrived at the location, there was a sign out front indicating that they were only allowing drive-thru service. I looked at the drive-thru lineup and, as always, there were abut 10 cars in the line up. I walked up to the drive-thru window and the barista told me very nicely that they don't normally make exceptions, but they would this once, and my order would be on the table at the front of the store. Fair enough. I went out front to collect my order, and a woman came out and yelled at me that it wasn't fait to make an exception for me and this was a safety issue, etc. etc. She then handed me my order rather than leaving my drinks on the outside table at a safe distance and, before I could explain to her that the mobile order indicated specifically that I could pick up in-store, she stormed back in and slammed the door. I understand fully that this is a safety issue but, if this is the case, they should indicate drive thru only on the app so I have the opportunity to go to another Starbucks. Furthermore, they should staff the location appropriately so that the drive thru line isn't prohibitively long, and, if this lady is so concerned about safety, she shouldn't be handing drinks to people! Very...
Read moreWhen I got there to pick up my mobile order, a dark roast coffee, there was not ready for my order even though my app said Ready-to pickup, which was twice at this branch so far. So I asked them if mine is ready, but one of the staff said they don't have a dark roast coffee 🤔 and they could brew it now if I could wait for another minutes so I spent more time getting the dark roast one. However, on Nov 26th, I got there picking up my dark roast coffee that was ready to pick up, but again, I couldn't receive my order, so I had to ask them. The funny thing was that one of the baristars made my order at the moment and gave me that coffee, saying this is a medium roast coffee, and we don't have a dark roast coffee.😤 If they don't have it, they shouldn't have received that order and why she gave me the coffee that I didn't order, knowing what I ordered, which made me get a refund and feel frustrated. Also, I had to make another line up to get a refund. Waste my time having uncomfortable experiences from them.
Yes, I won't get...
