Updated review: After previously sharing concerns, the Sushi Mura Lougheed team promptly conducted a thorough food safety investigation and followed up with us directly. On our recent visit we tried several of their best raw dishes and everything was fresh, delicious, and we felt completely fine afterwards, which has restored our confidence in eating here.
Their professionalism and commitment to food safety have regained our trust. We’ve always enjoyed dining here, and after this positive experience we’re happy to recommend Sushi Mura Lougheed and look forward to returning as regular customers. I especially appreciate the team for addressing my concerns, taking action, and providing such warm service.
Previous review: Sushi Mura Lougheed used to be our go-to sushi spot — we were regulars, dining here once a week. Unfortunately, after a recent dinner, both my wife and I experienced severe gastrointestinal issues. Her symptoms began later that night and have persisted for three days. Mine started the following morning and have lasted two days so far.
We hadn’t eaten out anywhere else around that time, and our two young children — who ate different dishes — had no issues. This leads us to suspect one of the items we shared but they didn’t: possibly the salmon sashimi, tuna belly sashimi, or the mentaiko udon.
It’s really disappointing, as we’ve always enjoyed this place. For now, we’ll be taking a break from dining here — and if we return, we’ll likely stick to cooked...
Read moreFor the food (the most important part), I have no complaints. I enjoyed my Rainbow Roll, whose presentation looked good. The presentation of the tempura udon was also good. Neither was particularly spectacular, but they fit the bill of what I expected for a standard sushi lunch and I was satisfied with the meal overall. I give props to them for using fresh oil as the tempura coating was extra crispy and crunchy (yum yum).
The interior design was appealing. They put up wooden criss cross lighting, hanging foliage, and wooden slat wall panelling that’s very much in style these days. However, I couldn’t help but think that this style has been used too many times by other similar restaurants in the area (for example, Green Leaf Cafe and its franchises). I felt it wasn’t so unique anymore. The mouthwash and cups in the washroom were a nice touch.
The service was slow enough that we needed to ask a server to bring us our udon that had been sitting on the counter for some time. We also needed to ask them to bring our bill when no one came to take our empty bowls and plates.
We understood they recently opened and their servers were working to their max, so I docked only 1 star for service. Hopefully, their service will improve in the next few months as they work out the kinks of a...
Read moreI will be fair with my review about this place. The atmosphere is great. However, the food was a bit underwhelming and a bit annoying to eat.
If you enjoy large sized sushi and nice food presentations, then this is a great place for you to try.
We ordered the double dragon roll, beef battera, and tempura udon.
Here are my thoughts:
The size of the sushi (roll) is quite large (and heavy) for one bite - so you will likely take 2 bites which defeats the purpose of enjoying the flavor as a whole.
The sushi rice from the rolls that we ordered was a bit dry and lacks the sushi rice flavor (if you know what I mean). The sushi has more rice and less other ingredients which I cannot taste (like the furikake in the battera from my order).
The options are on the pricey side. Close to $20 for the special rolls.
Food presentation and plating is great. However the serving plates and bowls are quite humongous. 2 sushi plates and 1 bowl for udon barely fit the table for 2 (square). My wife and I had to shift things around as we ate.
The ingredients used were fresh so that's a plus.
Overall, I will give a fair 3 ⭐. There is room for improvement on the overall experience. I didn't take photos of the food as we were shocked at how big the plates were...
