Boston Pizza — Restaurant in East Gwillimbury

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 2:00 p.m. Food was ok, not outstanding, not poor. Service was terrible. 2 Birthday parties where in the area which we sat in and where just leaving. Tables had plates, left over food, glasses all over them. Food all over the floor from young children. That wasn't the problem I know it's messy with small children but 4 waitresses stood at the cash register talking and laughing not cleaning the area. No manager in site. Several times I had to ask for the plates to be removed after we finished a course. Then it came time to leave. My bill was $155.66. I gave the girl $170.00, 6 - $20.00 and 1 - $50.00. She brought me back $3.45 change. I walking back to the front cash where she had gone back to with the bill and the change still in the cover and told her she was missing a $10.00 bill. The 3 girls standing at the cash had not put the money I gave her into the till yet. So we counted it out. I counted 5 - $20.00 and I said that's $100.00. Then I counted the $50.00 bill and then another $20.00. The 3 of them stood there dumbfounded. They continued to think I had only given them $160.00 even though we stood and counted it out together. I couldn't believe how the young people today couldn't count change. Finally I said I was going to leave the change as a tip for you. The correct tip would have been $13.45. So I turned around leaving and I said to her your cheating your tip of $10.00 if you want it that way it's up to you. I was going to leave the change as a tip for you. I really wanted to like this place as I’m always looking for new spots to eat at in the area. I went on a Friday night with my family. It wasn’t busy at all which seemed kind of strange to me on a Friday night but it is Newmarket so there’s that. The host and server were both very kind and friendly. My kids were given kids menus with crayons and activity sheets on the back to keep them busy. Our server was very outgoing, courteous and prompt we had no issues there at all. But the food omg the food. It was terrible. I tried really hard to eat as much as I could because I felt really bad but it was horrible. I shared a Hawaiian pizza with my husband, right off the bat when I saw it I knew I would not enjoy it. The pizza looked very pale as if it needed a few more minutes in the oven. It was loaded with purple onions, the pineapple wasn’t sweet and they drenched the pizza with some type of sweet syrup looking sauce that just threw the whole thing off. I also ordered the crispy Cajun shrimp which was really bad as well. My husband actually sent that one back and our server also agreed that it wasn’t the best. (Thanks for letting me know after the fact) my husband and I both didn’t enjoy our drinks. I had the bull dog margarita, it was a solid 4/10. The kids also didn’t enjoy their food and weren’t able to finish. They were so disappointed that they didn’t even ask...

This location has generally been my family's go-to place after a day if shopping or prior to a movie. Based on our most recent experiences, and the last one being yesterday afternoon (August 2, 2017), we will avoid returning for some time to come. We arrived for an early dinner prior to a movie at around 4pm and there were very few patrons so I figured it would be a seamless experience leaving us lots of time to enjoy our meal and make the movie. The trouble is we couldn't even get seated. My family and I stood there in the entrance of an almost empty restaurant for about 10 minutes (my husband tried to see if he could get someone's attention to no avail). We decided to leave and go across the street to another restaurant because unfortunately, the service we have received in the past didn't warrant staying (one evening in particular, my daughters and I were seated and served drinks and no one ever returned to take our dinner order. After 45+ minutes of waiting [and watching other servers tend to their tables], we couldn't wait any longer and I decided to leave. I actually found our server and said I wanted to pay for our drinks since we were leaving - he comped the drinks, apologized and I left with two starving kids). We have had a few good experiences here as well but the most recent visits have really turned us off...
