Went in on Friday with my boyfriend for dinner. Coming from Bradford, we called ahead and got our name down. When we walked in the girls gave us a buzzer and allowed us to sit at the bar for drinks in the meantime.
Bartenders we’re pretty busy but we got our drinks fairly quick. Only downfall was no straws with our drinks and by the time we could get a bartenders attention, i was already done my drink. Not a huge deal, they were pretty busy by the looks of it!
Our buzzer went off for a table fairly quick. We were served by Philip. He was very kind and friendly. We got the calamari which tasted fantastic especially in the greek feta sauce. Our server forgot our table bread when he brought out our calamari but honestly it worked better spacing the two out as our steaks took a bit longer to come out. (To be expected when it’s busy :) )
Our steaks tasted fantastic. The Medium Rare was cooked perfectly. I got it with the blue cheese crust which honestly melted in your mouth. I also got mushrooms on the side, I do only wish the mushrooms were sliced and on the steak rather than mini mushrooms but I managed.
Our server said it was his first day solo serving. He did a great job considering it was a bit busy. I asked for gravy for my garlic mashed potatoes and he said that there is no gravy. Im not sure if that’s true or not but I do find it a bit odd the Keg wouldn’t have gravy. There was 2 mix ups but honestly, they were no big deal for us. The first mix up was the creme brûlée, i had ordered a mini and receive and paid for the regular portion. But hey! Cant complain about dessert. It was also loud so I do think he just didn’t hear me. There was also a mix up with the rum for a run and coke. Rather than giving us bar rail or even asking if we wanted bar rail or top shelf, he gave us a non bar rail rum. it was only a 4$ difference from the bar rail so it truthfully wasn’t a big deal. I brought it to his attention and gave him some advice, one server to another. He was apologetic but we were really understanding that it was his first shift solo.
Overall the food was great and Phillip did a great job on his first solo :) Definitely will be...
Read moreMy husband and I were very disappointed with our visit to your restaurant recently. It was our anniversary and many years ago we had our wedding dinner at the keg so we always go there for our anniversary. Honestly we go there for most special occasion because we feel the quality is usually worth the price. I have noticed the Newmarket location declining in quality over time and we have thought to go to other Keg’s but it would be really far from our home and we have two small boys. I’ve actually never complained because I find it embarrassing but tonight I was so sad that we were going to have to pay for such an awful meal, I felt like I had to say something. It was 4:30 pm and my steak was tough and dry, the scallops were rubbery, the Bearnaise sauce had soured. My husbands steak was under cooked, my children’s hamburgers were so dry and tough the young one choked and the older one refused to eat it. Even the bread had some sort of dry weird texture. It was inedible, I think they grabbed bread from yesterday or defrosting bread maybe, by accident. We complained, they refired my husbands steak, it came back still under cooked. My husband insisted they redo my meal but I didn’t want that because the kids were getting restless. I told the waiter that. When I tried to tell the kitchen manager what was wrong he was very rude and cut me off, saying “whatever” before I was done and then complained about how he had 100 steaks on the grill but they would try and get mine out quickly. I took three bites of my new meal before we had to pack up. We did not receive the dessert for my son or for our anniversary. They charged us for everything. Basically we paid 150$’s for two drinks because every other part of the meal had a problem. I am really disappointed. I think we will need to find another restaurant to celebrate at because we just can’t afford to waste money on such bad food. I sent an email with no response. We have not been back for any more holidays since. So...
Read moreAll it takes is one bad experience!
Me and 3 friends all go to the keg for our birthdays: great steak, great service, free Billy miner pie. Moreover, the experience is consistent.
We went tonight, and hoped, at the very least, we would get our consistent and great service. Granted, this time we went with our baby - and if we had gotten the same service and meal we had gotten the last 10 times, we would have been fine.
We get seated and think it peculiar we were not asked by the waitress if it was a special occasion. Weird, but we brush by it, knowing we’ll announce it when it comes time for dessert. She then takes our drinks and our app orders. The apps come but they hadn’t brought the bread yet, which we think is again, weird, so we ask the busboy to get it for us. At this point we’re thinking the waitress just must be new. Very slow, not asking the patented keg questions etc. can be excused.
By the time we finish our mains, it’s been 1.5 hours. Which is LONG for the keg. Refreshing had we not had a baby with us. But, they usually turn around tables quickly, which we would have appreciated given we were dining out with our infant. It was at this point we decide that we need to step in gear and get out, else we’ll have ourselves a crying baby. So we go out of our way to announce our friends bday, do the Billy miner pie, and ask for our bills. Pie comes, no bills, so we ask again. 20 minutes go by, haven’t seen our waitress at all. It was at this point we notice how LOUD the music is (it usually isn’t an issue but we were seated right below the speaker). So we stop another waiter who immediately gauges the situation and the waitress comes with our bills. Without the card machine. Sigh.
All in all, a great meal with bad, slow service that we did not expect from the keg. I can appreciate having to train staff, maybe we just don’t let the newbies handle the table...
