i’ve been wanting to visit Cafe Bel-Air for sometime since hearing about their High Tea experience + their Mauritian food! So for my sisters birthday I decided to take her and our parents for High Tea. 🫖 i’d also like to say i don’t really make reviews for places so if i do make a review, its a great sign that i enjoyed!

we were greeted upon entering by Avinash who showed us our reserved table already set for tea. the place smelled really nice and looked clean. it’s decorated by Mauritian art, trinkets, and books. He informed us on the menu and the types of tea to choose from, you can get unlimited tea. The desserts and snacks were amazing! I really loved all of them, my personal favourite is the Lemon poppyseed cake it wasn’t too sweet and super soft. I also loved the strawberry heart cookie! We even got 2 more dessert tarts and mauritian food to go and Avinash gave me 2 more on the house.

Overall - You can tell the owner is very passionate about his restaurant, you can see it in the food they make to the service and atmosphere to even their posts on social media. My family and I had an amazing time and left with happy stomachs! More importantly, my sister thoroughly enjoyed her high tea experience that she’s always been wanting to have. My best friend is Mauritian and he’s told me that there’s only 3-4 restaurants in Canada that serve Mauritian cuisine so I will definitely hear again to try more Mauritian food. Businesses like these should always be supported, i highly recommended coming here and you will be taken care...

I came in on October 9, 2024 around 6:00pm in a desperate search on Whyte Ave to find a decent cafe for a hot chocolate. I am so glad Google directed me to Cafe Bel-Air. I walked right in and the place was beautiful! There is such a lovely whimsical and sweet atmosphere to the cafe. While taking in the beauty, I was greeted by such a charming gentleman at the front who had boasted of their hot chocolate. He assured me the hot chocolate he was going to make was the best one in Alberta, and compared to all the cafes I've been to here, I would actually say he was correct!

It was not some liquid fudge and hot milk junk. It was a Milo Hot Chocolate made with love and beautifully decorated on-top, served with such a gracious confidence. I expressed my delight to the gentleman with a loud expletive which was warmly accepted with his ear-to-ear smile. I hope the woman in the back heard me because I am very happy to recommend this cafe. The treats were also delicious. There is an obvious love and passion incorporated into the food and environment; definitely a cafe worth visiting.

Thank you for the lovely visit, my friend talked about this establishment almost the entire way home. I also didn't think to take a photo of the hot chocolate or strawberry neopolitan, but it looked beautiful and tasted so goddamn amazing....

Absolutely adore the food, the staff, the decor, everything. I came here to try one of their afternoon tea sets with my friend. The staff were so friendly and even shared stories about the cuisine in Maritius and how diverse the people living there are (as well as how afternoon tea intersects with the culture there). I love hearing stories and learning the history that led up to the opening of the restaurant/cafe here.

The afternoon tea was super affordable and vegetarian (lacto-ovo) friendly. I included a photo of the sweet and savory spread. My absolute favourite was the mango jam! It's a family secret recipe and they don't sell it but it was amazing! The semolina ball was a burst of flavour and the cucumber hummus cup was refreshing. Of the 2 sandwiches I preferred the soya bean one. Satiety wise, I was completely satisfied after the tea (it was my late lunch, I hadn't eaten that morning).

We tried the earl grey and the sencha tea and I found that the earl grey paired well with the savouries and the sencha was great with the sweets.

I would love to come back to try some of the regular dishes on the menu! Such a fun experience. This is definitely a hidden gem off...

We drove 3 hours from Calgary to Edmonton just to try this amazing Mauritian place. Avinash and his mom are very welcoming. The place is so beautifully decorated and we absolutely loved the food. We can't wait to be back to try more.
