I've been debating exactly what to say about what I witnessed on Saturday Oct 5 at Tiki Tiki, but here it is. I went out to Tiki Tiki for a friend's birthday, and while we were there one of their famous flaming cocktails was blown like a flame thrower onto a server. She was lit on fire from head to toe and immediately dropped to the floor and started rolling back and forth. A member of our party's arm was also lit on fire and he sustained minor injuries. The fire blew past my partner's legs and luckily just missed his pants. One of the decorative ropes on the ceiling was on fire and the flame was travelling upwards towards some other decor. Another server put out I believe with his hand. This incident was the most terrifying thing I have ever witnessed.

For a restaurant with the tag line "Family, friends, and fire" you'd think the staff would have been trained for the event of a fire but apparently they weren't. There was no fire blanket brought out, no fire extinguisher, and no water, so the server was forced to put it out by herself. It also seems like they didn't train their bartenders properly on how to make these drinks or this probably wouldn't have happened. Two patrons took care of the server's injuries and comforted her until EMS arrived. No one seemed to be checking in on the bartender who looked really shaken up. A server brought an ice pack for our friend's burn which I have since learned you're not supposed to do.

After the server was taken into the ambulance, the manager opened the bar back up and made his staff finish their shifts after witnessing this traumatic event. That was one of many failures on management's part. We stuck around so they could take down our information and witness statements for their records, but that never happened. Instead we were brought the bills for the drinks we had before all this happened. No apology, no checking in on if we were ok, not even a discount. They also opened right back up the next day. It seemed like they cared more about making money and saving face than the safety and wellbeing of their staff and patrons.

I had gone to Tiki Tiki several times before and really enjoyed it, but this was really scary and honestly quite traumatic (and handled very poorly by management) so I'll be staying far away.

P.S. If you are a staff member of Tiki Tiki who was working that night, you are entitled to WCB. There is a way to file it confidentially if the managers/owners...

This spot is solid. My first time in was on a date night and although we had the worst table in the bar (by the washroom), we were both very impressed with the quality, and presentation, of the drinks and dishes. I had one of the burgers, can’t remember which one but it was probably one of the juiciest, flavourful burgers I’ve had, perfect size. The Mrs had the meatballs, also fire. The drinks we tried was the mojito and the mule, they were both a tropical twist on the originals that did not disappoint.

What did disappoint was the desert. We were sold on this pineapple pancake dish that the kitchen was just coming out with, unfortunately the server misspoke and it wasn’t available that night.

We got the bill satisfied with our visit and headed home. Looking at the receipt after I saw we were charged for the desert that we didn’t get. I called the restaurant and explained, the staff apologized and said if come back they will give a refund. I just asked they note it and we will be by sometime for the desert.

A few weeks or so later we stroll in after being out on whyte, for the pineapple pancakes. The hostess greets us and recognizes that we were the ones that had called about the desert. They sit us down at the bar and the manager comes over with a refund and apologizes for their mistake. We explain we didn’t want the refund but the desert. They offer both the desert and the refund (not needed), while we’re waiting for the pancakes they make some shots for us, coconut infused tequila that they claim is infused in house. What a smooth tasty shot, and I typically hate shots.

The desert was brought quick and we were seated at a booth that had cleared up, this desert was so worth coming back for.

Everyone here introduced themselves and were attentive and friendly, sorry I don’t remember all the names but Dan you make some mean drinks, and Lonnie you are very hospitable. I’ve been to so many restaurants in my life and this one has real potential, Thanks again. Will be...

Update to my review below.

We all got sick. My husband, who's bday it was was vomiting and couldn't stop going to the bathroom. My sister and I got major stomach pains and our stomachs have been upset now for 2 days. I emailed the owner and have yet to receive any response.

I doubt the food here is fresh and it is 100% covered up with sauces so that you can't taste the nastiness out of it. As well vegetables being burnt on the outside and raw on the inside.

The review:

175 was our bill..overpriced. We had to ask them to fix it, and it went to 155 once it was corrected. Now, we ordered 4 drinks. One was returned, and when it came back, it still tasted the same. Awful and tasteless. They most definitely do not know how to make a mojito. The worst part of the night. All of the food we ordered was overcooked, burnt and it tasted sooooo soo bad. The wings and dry ribs (we got two different flavors) both were so bad. The poutine, $20 was horrible. At one point the waitress tells us how they have the specials for 25 and when we got the bill one of the two plates says it was 34. She said it just is 34. But the menu doesnt tell the price and she left us under the impression that both were 25. The waitress didn't even know the menu. I asked the waitress if the food i ordered came with pineapples...she said yes. Of course it didn't. The price would have been no problem if the food and drinks were good. But the entire night was horrible and it just kept getting worse. I let two waitress know that it's my husband's bday. One said she toom note's and the other acknowledged me and okay! At the end of the night I asked her for the cake, she said oh I didn't know. If I did i would have brought it. But I did tell her, I also asked questions about the desserts to make sure i picked it. Overall, disgusting experience and absolutely...

Tiki Tiki on Whyte truly delivers an unforgettable experience, especially when you have a server as stellar as Holly. From the moment we stepped in, her warm "aloha" greeting set the perfect island tone. Holly effortlessly navigated the lively, vibrant atmosphere, making us feel right at home despite the bustling crowd. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the extensive drink menu, guiding us through their impressive array of hard drinks. The "Bumbu Mai Tai" was a robust, flavorful journey to the tropics, while the "Wild Orchard" offered a delightful, refreshing twist. For our non-drinking friend, Holly recommended a mocktail that was just as artfully crafted and delicious, proving their commitment to exceptional beverages across the board. The food, often a secondary thought at many bars, was a genuine highlight. Holly's suggestions were spot-on; the Polynesian fusion dishes were packed with unique flavors. Our "North Shore Smash Tacos" were undeniably tasty, and the "Pineapple Pancakes" (from a previous visit that Holly remembered!) were a sweet, fluffy triumph. Holly’s attentiveness, quick service, and genuine passion for the menu elevated our entire evening. Her ability to anticipate our needs and offer such perfect recommendations truly solidified Tiki Tiki on Whyte as a must-visit spot. The combination of fantastic drinks, delicious food, and Holly's phenomenal service makes this place a standout on Whyte Ave.

My friend and I were looking for a new restaurant to try and decided to have lunch at TiKi TiKi this past weekend. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by upbeat music, colourful lighting and Tiki totems, which contributed to their Polynesian Island theme. Our server was friendly, but seemed to still be in training, as she was not 100% confident in her knowledge of the menu items. My friend and I ordered pina colada mocktails, a poke bowl and pulled brisket sliders. We enjoyed everything. The poke bowl was enough for two people and my friend said her sliders were very flavourful. We had also seen on Instagram and Google that TiKi Hour (happy hour) was advertised from 2-5 pm daily. When we mentioned this to our server and showed her the post, she called her manager to confirm and told us that it was actually from 3-6 pm. We were surprised that they did not honour it for us, given that it was on their Instagram (it has since been removed). I probably would not return because there weren't very many pescatarian-friendly items on the menu, but I would still recommend my friends to give it a try.
