God this place is full of pretentious hipsters. I went an hour out of my way to get some London fog cookies for my husband for Christmas one year, called ahead and everything. Was promised they'd be ready, all that. I get there and the staff acts like it's a burden to even be asked about them, the two who are "helping" me keep doing the "body check" thing where they size someone up physically because you clearly aren't one of "their" type of people, and then say they don't have a clue what I'm talking about. I had to SUGGEST they ask someone else because I had spoken to someone on the phone and placed the request in advance. They finally deign to ask someone and that individual was a lot kinder and more helpful. Immediately said "Oh I remember so and so talking about that. Let me check the back."
The cookies were okay and I do appreciate they were placed in a bakers box. That was cute. The coffee is awful though. I come from a coffee fueled culture and have experienced some bad coffee and some great coffee. This one isn't the worst I've had but what they charge for their "large" is a joke when the coffee doesn't even taste good. That's not as much fun to deal with when you're trying to be frugal, shop local in order to be socially and eco conscious, and just support the...
Read moreLots of parking in-front. Gluten Free cookies, which was pretty good and another gf snack I didn't try. Dairy free options with coconut, oat and soy milk. I had the matcha latte with soy milk. They offered it without sweetener which I appreciated because I watch my added sugars as a nutrition student. The table size was good for a laptop and mouse, as I do work at the cafe. They don't have a window bar with plug ins, but there was luckily one next to my table, seems odd for a place close to the university to not have areas optimized for students. The building has a rock climbing gym on one side and the cafe on the other, which is fine, but you have to go to the other side to use the rock climbing bathroom which doubles as a change room, so don't expect to sit on the throne in peace and quiet. At least it was a clean bathroom, but it was out of paper towels. The front counter lady was nice, but they don't bring the coffee to your table, which is normal for most places anyway. Over all I'm happy that they have gf snacks and my latte was good, it was warm and I could work and plug in my laptop. So I would come here again. It would be nice if instead of the couch next to the door it had a window bar with plugins and USBs for students or even against the back wall where...
Read moreIt's a neat little place for some coffee and convo, with an outdoor/sports apparel store in the back. I think the atmosphere would be better if there wasn't the outdoor goods, if only because it would provide room for some more seating.
As for the service and food, couldn't be better. I like that my hot chocolate even got a "latte swirl" treatment. And the peanut butter cookie was just about perfect.
They have some cozy couches to sit on. I initially sat at a high table (because the two lower tables were taken), but didn't like my head being inches from the heater vent. So, I moved to the couches in the corner, before my cousin arrived. We were comfortable there in the corner, and had a good view of the whole place from that vantage point. Again, the small outdoor/sports goods in the other side of the place just seemed cold and weird to me. But maybe they make a lot of money with that store, so, who am I to say how...
