We were staying Friday to Sunday, not longer, thank heavens!! Upon check in on Friday, we were told the water would be shut off from 10 pm to 4 am. What?!? Also, if you drove there like we did, you will find that it costs $35 per day to park your vehicle in their parkade.
Our washroom was very old where you could see there used to be some kind of anti slip thing in the tub as the circles are still there and now grey. There was a mini fridge in the room but no one has defrosted it in some time as the freezer was thick with ice. Also, the little bar in the door to hold your drinks in place was missing. We booked for 2 adults and 1 adult sized teenager. We ended up with 2 double beds?!? I don't know the last time I shared a double bed with anyone. They are always queen.
My daughter was happy to see the clock radio had a CD player in it but it turned out to be broken. A quick call to the front desk and a Sony Dream Machine was brought up. No view to speak of from our room.
We rushed to the pool so we could have a shower afterwards before the 10 pm deadline. The pool looks NOTHING like the hotel's photo on its website. One end is 2 ft deep and the "deep" end is 4 ft deep. Nothing fancy at all in the pool room to make it more appealing. Just a hot tub and pool and few places to sit. Oh, and a few sad little exercise machines in the corner - so they could say they have an "exercise room" I guess. On Saturday, 1 of the 3 elevators was out of service. So that made for long wait times for the other 20+ floors of guests to wait. Saturday night, only 1 elevators was operating. While the other elevator stayed for hours on the 8th floor. For anyone with anxiety or agoraphobic issues, one packed elevator for 20+ floors is a terror.
The only place to eat in the hotel is the Chop Steakhouse so you better bring plenty of money. That is not a cheap place. It was preferable to go the City Centre mall and eat for cheap with all the sketchy characters instead. There was another place which looked like it had great food and great prices but it was a bar and said "no minors".
I wanted to print my boarding pass and they have no business services. They had me use their concierge's desk, where I have a few people trying to check out of the hotel. I then wanted to book the shuttle for my flight on Sunday morning. Lo and behold they have NO SHUTTLE.
Over the course of the weekend, it seemed like the hotel got dirtier and dirtier. Cigarette butts getting tracked in from outside, gum wrappers, litter on the floor in the elevator and by the elevator, empty pop cans lying around, room service and take out containers sat outside of the hotel rooms in the hall all day long. If they got put out after the maid had come by, they were going to be there all night long too. Does no one check the hallways?!
Bring a lot of money for the cab from West Edmonton Mall ($50), the cab to the airport ($60) and to eat at Chop ($$$$$$).
I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. It looks nice at first but it quite a grungy place to...
Read moreVery nice hotel centrally situated. Parking is around the building in the very secure and clean underground parkaide and 20.00 extra which is no problem but if you did not know where to park its good to know this getting to the hotel. Liked that there were luggage carts in the parking lot. ||Great customer service and beautiful peaceful lobby with gorgeous chandeliers. we paid for a premium 2 queen room floors 17 - 26. we were happy to get a great medical rate with proof of appointment provided. Our first room was 1801 right across from the dinging elevators so we asked to be moved. I initially asked for a higher floor at check in and the side that faces the river past Canada place but we got room 1715 at the end of the hall where it was quiet with no ice machine or vending something we loved. I did not want to move a third time and the front desk said rooms don't have a river view but i am positive if you are on a higher floor such as the pool on 26 facing Canada place you can definitely see the river as we did from the pool loungers and you are further from the windows of offices where people working in them can stare into your room. What i wished i would have done at that point was insisted on a higher floor and insisted on being placed in a room on the even side. Our room we had to keep the curtains closed because we felt exposed with the people working directly opposite our room in their office building.||The room itself was wonderful. it was clean and had the most comfy bed and pillows. The rooms were soundproof, great lighting and a cozy feel as long as the curtains were closed. At night when the office workers went home then we could enjoy a bit of lights from the city but on the city side or odd number rooms you are sandwiched in between two tall office buildings with a narrow view especially low down.||we had some unpleasant hiccups with the keys. they demagnetized very very easy even away from the phone. We were not alone and were trapped in the elevator once ourselves and then with another couple who were just coming back from the pool and had to go to front desk. we heard others needing new keys. we went through three sets of new keys. You need your room key to work the elevator to go up. they said you can go down without it but the first time the elevator would not move no matter what button we pushed. this was a very scary experience i do not want to repeat.||the pool area was gorgeous and not crowded with a lovely view of the river and Canada Place out the large windows and great loungers. hot tub was always full in the evening as pool is cold but in the morning we had it to ourselves.||there is no breakfast included so we ate at Chop which was nice large portion had the eggs benny ||We had supper at La Ronde the revolving restaurant down the street which was spectacular. ||I would definitely stay here again and recommend it but i would just make sure we are way higher up on the even room number side...
