We checked out the UFC website for local holes in the wall to watch the fights since we were just bumming around in our sweatpants at home watching the prelims and didn't want a crazy bro night out at the bigger bars playing them.
The website confirmed The Thirsty Camel was nearby and confirmed they were playing the UFC card so off we went to check it out.
The bar was very small, as expected but obviously recently renovated with modern colours and interior. It was clean and dimly lit - an electric fireplace gave a nice cozy feel as we curled up in a booth to watch the fights.
The service was wonderful. Our server (who's name may have been Barbie?) was smiley, energetic and helpful and checked back on us often and took time for a little chat. In between fights, there was a door prize draw - my boyfriend won a UFC tshirt :P
The menu was huge for a pub menu with a lot of asian and mexican inspired dishes. We started with the Perogie Rolls - which were springrolls with perogie filling. They needed ketchup... :/ I had the steak quesadilla with a side of guac. The quesadilla itself was huge and stuffed full of tender savoury steak and flavourful fillings like green pepper, onion and cheese. LOVED it. Could hardly finish it it was so fulling. The guac was a bit disappointing. Lots of onion...not a lot of avocado so it made it impossible to spread or even pile on.
My boyfriend got a grilled chicken burger with yam fries. The fries were tasty and burger LOOKED fantastic, piled high with a nicely grilled chicken breast - but in hopes of going for the "healthier" he was bummed on the cheezewhiz type processed cheese melted all over it (like, drowning in cheeze sauce)
But the sound was GREAT for watching the fights, there was a TV to see at every seat. We might just have found our new go-to place to watch...
Read moreAwesome place to meet friends food is amazing, service pretty good too ! Just need to be early to get a seat, on a Friday.👍 Well it's been a while but I have been craving their special jalapeno bacon mac & cheese UPDATE: well they must of got a new cook and he doesnt know the difference between marble cheese and a blend of Monterey jack and sharp cheese! I can't even brag about this dish as I could of made that at home. The cook didnt even take the time to chop up the jalapenos, creamy was not even close, remove all the blobs of marble cheese and all I have is lesson learned! I would not suggest this if this is how they are presenting this dish now! I am...
Read moreLoved the space and decor, food above average bar food but wine list abysmal. Twice we would have stopped in but I said no because of the wine. Mentioned our visit to a friend and she said the same. I understand only 2 or 3 bottles by the glass but a Merlot?? Nothing wrong with using Boxed wine. Black Box especially palatable and Copper Moon Malbec not bad either. Another option is the small airplane size bottles. Will check back in a few weeks, hoping to include Thirsty Camel into one of our regulars stops. I do have to mention the exceptional service. Those...
