I woke up extra early and waited in line for over an hour in the freezing cold. I expected there to be a huge line up for their grand opening and patiently waited. I made it to the tent but time was ticking and I couldn't be late for work and I was freezing so I decided to leave. Staff members did start handing out glazed donuts so I grabbed one and left. It was very soft, it had a vanilla taste to it but it was way too sweet for my liking. Unfortunately I couldn't wait any longer outside in the cold and left but I was looking forward to try their other donuts and coffee. I'll have to go back at another time but was disappointed I drove all that way and waited in a long line in the cold and couldn't even get inside.
Edit: ok so I decided to return in the evening hoping it would be less busy and I could actually get inside and I did! Still had to wait outside for a bit but eventually the line moved inside and of course they kept us all happy with the free glazed donuts they kept offering:) I ordered a box of 6 assorted and they were all quite good, I especially liked their raspberry filled and apple filled donuts. i didn't really care for the birthday cake one and the oreo one but the others had good toppings/fillings and i enjoyed them. The chocolate topped ones were good and didn't taste like that waxy artificial chocolate but real chocolate which i love. Like I said previously, I find their donuts to be very sweet but they are very soft, fresh, light and airy and definitely an indulgence if you are craving donuts or something sweet. I love the factory style set up of the store. I think it's cool you can stand there and watch the process of how the donuts are made. I think the kids really like that too. I also ordered a latte, it was nothing special though. They use one of those big industrial style restaurant coffee machines to make it. I'll try their iced coffee or hot coffee next time and see if they are any better. Overall, I'm very happy Krispy Kreme is in our city now! Along with other big U.S. chains, i love how the city is growing and expanding. Tim Hortons has run its course and it's not good anymore, not their donuts or their coffee and Krispy Kreme is very comparable if not better as far as prices go.
Shout out to all the friendly hard working staff who worked today including security working outside in the cold directing traffic. They all made the opening a success ๐ your hard work didn't go unnoticed or...
ย ย ย Read moreSo my sister and I decided to check out Krispy Kreme today thinking that it would not be as busy as it had been the first dayโฆ ๐๐๐!!! So just a warning that if you are going to check it out in the next couple of days or so be prepared to wait in line and dress accordingly to the weather. If you decide to go through the drive thru be prepared to wait in line on Calgary Trail as they have someone directing traffic at the entrance specifically for the drive thru. If you are bringing children please make sure to dress them accordingly as well as we saw so many kids and babies in strollers today not dressed for standing in line. I actually would like to suggest to the store that as they still have the tent outside for the lineup that it would be really wonderful if you set up heaters for the customers willing to stand in line for your AMAZING donuts.
So once we got inside and got to watch the donut production and see all of the flavours to pick from (which was harder than you think). We finally got to pick out our dozen for $16.50 and they currently have a special where you buy a dozen and receive a dozen of honey glazed donuts for free. We also purchased an iced coffee and a coffee and the service was exceptional from the staff considering how busy they were. Once we had received our donuts I had forgotten to ask for a bag and I asked one of the girls and I was informed that there was a charge of $.80 for the bag. We started to dig in our purses when one of the other staff Sahil stepped in and said โno, itโs fine here you go and he said let me pack the bag for you โ. We were just amazed at the wonderful service from both Sahil and Mohammad again because they were still both smiling and cheerful after what I can assume has been a busy couple of days. I have worked in customer service and I know that being that busy and keeping up with customers and being cheerful constantly is not always easy so to all the staff I congratulate you all for doing an amazing job. Also the donuts are AMAZINGโฆ the strawberry dip is my...
ย ย ย Read moreFinally had a chance to visit the location in person after the hype. Needless to say it is a franchise so it is nothing special, just another momentary hype for a new franchise in town. Open concept like many franchises nowadays to be able to view the production line while lining up, something to keep you entertained to forget about the time wasted. Not a thoughtful layout of the store, entrance walks right into a dead wall, nowhere near the display of food choice or menu, makes it ultra inefficient for those who want to start choosing flavors, package size, drinks, etc. Without anything to attract customers' eyeballs, we witnessed a few guests coming in after us just walked right back out, maybe also because of the unappealing line up. Maybe consider swapping your exit as your entrance, makes more sense that way. Marketing and designer was a complete fail for the business. Quite a few flavors ran out, instead of taking the signs out or replacing them, workers simply put a tray of complete different flavor which creates unnecessary confusion, while they made it like it was our fault for picking something they did not have... Parkjng space is very limited, messy and unstructured line up around the building for lazy people hitting up the drive thru creates much more unnecessary strain to the parking situation, drive thru comes out of the tight designated parking area making it even more congested - once again poor design. It's ok overall, overrated hype, will die down in no time and turns into just another...
