Syphay Restaurant in Edmonton offers a delightful blend of authentic Lao and Thai cuisine, making it a unique culinary destination for those craving vibrant, flavorful dishes. I visited the restaurant with my family, and it turned out to be an exceptional experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with the perfect balance of casual and cozy, making it a great spot for family dinners.
We started with the Spring Rolls, which were a standout. These crispy, golden rolls were packed with fresh vegetables and herbs, served with a tangy dipping sauce that was the perfect complement. The balance of textures, with the crunch on the outside and the fresh, juicy filling, made them a hit at the table. We had three orders of these (36 rolls in total) and did not regret our choices even a little bit.
The Papaya Salad (Som Tum) was another favorite. It was a refreshing balance of tangy, spicy, and slightly sweet flavors, featuring the perfect crunch from shredded green papaya and peanuts. The heat level was spot on, providing a kick without overwhelming the palate.
The Pad Sew was another hit—loaded with savory stir-fried noodles, tender vegetables, and your choice of meat. The balance of sweet, salty, and savory flavors in the sauce was perfect, making every bite satisfying. It was just the right amount of comfort food with a nice kick of flavor that didn’t overpower the ingredients. We savoured our leftovers the next day as well!
We also tried the Pad Thai, which stood out for its balance of flavors. It wasn’t overly sweet like some versions can be, but instead leaned into the savory side with just the right amount of tang from tamarind and a delightful crunch from the peanuts and sprouts.
In addition to the other delicious dishes, Syphay Restaurant’s curries are truly a highlight. The Yellow Curry was rich and creamy, with a perfect balance of warmth and sweetness, thanks to the coconut milk and spices. It had a subtle heat that built with each bite, complementing the tender vegetables. The Green Curry, on the other hand, was vibrant and aromatic, with the fresh green chilies and herbs adding a sharp, zesty kick. We requested chicken to be added to it. Both curries were served with a side of fragrant jasmine rice, which soaked up the flavorful sauce beautifully. Whether you prefer the mellow, comforting notes of the yellow curry or the bold, spicy punch of the green, both options are a must-try and showcase Syphay's expertise in creating rich, flavorful, and authentic Southeast Asian dishes.
To finish off the meal, we couldn’t resist the Mango Sticky Rice, and it didn’t disappoint. The mango was ripe and juicy, complementing the coconut-infused sticky rice in a comforting, indulgent way.
What truly made the experience exceptional was the service. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed and checking in regularly to ensure our dining experience was top-notch. They were knowledgeable about the menu and provided great recommendations.
Overall, Syphay Restaurant’s menu offers a well-rounded selection of dishes that showcase the best of Lao and Thai flavors. Whether you're there for a casual family meal or a special occasion, you’re sure to find something you love. The service was outstanding, and the food, with its bold and flavorful dishes, made it a memorable dining...
Read moreWe've ordered take out a few times but the last 2 have been a bit frustrating. The first time the order was never received by the restaurant so I did have to sit and wait while it was prepared. I assumed it was a one off and the gentleman who helped me was apologetic. The food is always great so it didn't deter us from ordering again. I ordered again yesterday (June 14). Initially the website told me 27-37 minutes for pick up. Then I got a text message stating nearly 90 minutes. So I called to ask as I had a deadline and the person who answered said the initial time was correct. No problem so I headed to the restaurant. I had specifically wanted the garlic shrimp bites which you are only able to order for takeout with the Syphay Platter. As per the website, that includes 4 spring rolls, 5 pineapple shrimp wraps, and 8 garlic shrimp wraps. Our order was ready approximately 10 minutes after the estimated time. Not a big deal. Then I get home and we unpack dinner to see that the platter ended up being 6 spring rolls and 2 salad rolls. None of the other times were included and we were not informed that it wasn't available or that a substitution was made. We didn't order the salad rolls on purpose. The food was good as usual but some work surrounding communication, how the online delivery systems work, and availability to provide pick up orders in a timely manner would definitely improve the rating. We've always had good service...
Read moreFriend from out of town wanted to get Thai food, as where he lives, doesn't have a restaurant that offers it. Looked up online and remembered trying to go to their DT location, but they were closed that day. This location is relatively new and closer to me, so decided to finally give them a try. Location is great and parting is limited but lots were parking and picking up mostly for delivery. When you walk in, it's all open concept and very welcoming. We were just the second group to arrive as we showed up just as they opened. Their menus are very nicely laid out and magnetized. Been awhile since I've had Thai food and just the smell, which was delicious was distracting me in a great way. We decided on some Salad Rolls, Pad Sin Lon with Chicken and Gang-Dang with Shrimp and Coconut Rice. Salad rolls were freshly made and very good. The peanut sauce was thicker than I'm used to, but very tasty. When our two meals came out, the first thing I noticed, besides that the serving were generous was the plates and bowls. They all matched, were beautiful and I loved the designs and shapes. We shared our food and WOW; it was incredible! The flavors were making my mouth happy. Even though I could feel myself getting a bit full, I didn't want to stop as it tasted soo darn good! We packed up our small leftovers, gave them a generous tip and I will be back for sure to try more...
