Labo Coffee has been a location growing ever more frequently-visited in my life as a student, with their lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, and delicious coffee. However, upon visiting earlier today, I discovered that they were branching out their menu - offering sandwiches. Wonderful, I thought, I'm starving and could really use something hearty. So, naturally, I ordered the unassuming favourite of many - a grilled cheese sandwich.
I can wholeheartedly say my life is changed.
Upon first glance, the sandwich was significantly larger than the same menu item from other cafes I've gone to - they do not skimp out on the bread size or the amount of cheese. It was grilled perfectly with a halo of holy golden cheesy goodness peeking from the slices. But it only proved to taste better than it looked. The cheese - incredible, warm and delicious and perfectly melted. But also with a surprising medley of spices within, and the addition of cream cheese as well? Spellbinding. And paired with a cortado, perfectly brewed and unfortunately a rare offering among cafes-
Perfection.
If I could marry a sandwich, I would. The ceremony would be beautiful, and we would go on our honeymoon to Germany. But, unfortunately, it is frowned upon to espouse cafe fare, so I wrote this review instead.

Read moreâCoffee for the curiousâ they say but sadly the concept of the cafe doesnât go further than the slogan itself.
The visual cohesiveness of the interior is confusing and âprettyâ at best. It looks like someone took the idea of âaesthetic cafeâ and slapped a bunch of Pinterest ideas in different sections.
The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is good but it is heavily divided between mainly students in the back studying and the front being bright and loud.
Pastries are all displayed on the counter uncovered so itâs pretty unsanitary. The drink menu is decorated with puns for unfamiliar and experimental names but with no inclination or explanation of what is in them. Surely one canât stand for hours asking what each one of the drinks are only to be met with âitâs an iced coffee with fruity/nutty notes and our xyz.â
The taste of the drinks are pretty horrendous and disappointing given their cost. The ice coffee and the malted latte had a bitter, sour taste that was watered down at the same time somehow like a third batch of office coffee and had the latter had a bizarre unpleasant taste unlike the malted lattes I had before.
Overall wouldnât go back but wish the owners would revisit their foundations and theme if they...

I was curious about the name of the drinks...because I cannot pronounce half of them ... had a little chat with the owner and I can tell he has a passion for the business, he cares about his drinks and is always looking for room to improve.
I tried 2 Experimental Drinks.
Laberry Tea, which is an earl grey base, with berries and whipped cream on top. It tastes sweet and sour, very refreshing.
