This is an excellent little restaurant on 82nd Street in Edmonton. Do not let the uninspiring exterior facade deter you from experiencing the culinary excellence and friendly staff that lie within.
The food, Chicken Kadai on this visit, is full of flavour, with delicious herbs and spices to provide amazing flavours with the rare ability to provide accurate varying levels of ‘heat’. I have worked my way up to four out of five and it has deep intense but well balanced heat that enhances rather than mutes the superb flavours and textures.
There is a good variety of dishes from various regions and styles on the menu. There is a good selection of beers in the fridge (I don’t drink so the water works well for me) and my wife tells me that their chai is also excellent.
The naan bread is simply perfect. Being intolerant to butter I have mine plain which means that there is nothing to hide the excellence of the bread. Simultaneously hot, crisp and fluffy.
This is my “go to” restaurant in Edmonton and you are doing yourself a dis-service, if you like Indian food, and do not make the well rewarded effort...
Read moreI used to be a loyal customer here during my university years — this place once stood out among Indian restaurants in Edmonton for its warm service and excellent food. I recommended it to countless friends, especially within the Indian community. That’s why it’s incredibly disappointing to see how far this place has fallen.
My recent visit was a disaster. The food was wrong, cold, and nothing close to what I ordered. The service was indifferent at best — the staff made no effort to refill water or check in, and the server acted like serving me was a burden. What shocked me the most, however, was being commented on for hugging and kissing my girlfriend — something mild and entirely respectful — and being told it was “not allowed.” That kind of tone-deaf, outdated behavior has no place in a city like Edmonton.
Sadly, this place has lost all sense of hospitality and quality. I won’t be returning, and I no longer recommend it. There are far better Indian restaurants nearby, especially the new one on Whyte — do yourself a favor and go...
Read moreOne word WOW! I’ve had Indian food all over Canada and the United States including Indian food hot spots like Brampton and Surrey. The food at New Everest ranks alongside some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The price and portions are a great value. The food was fresh and flavourful. Unlike many other independent Indian restaurants, New Everest does not use a standardized base for all their dishes, allowing for each entree to have a unique flavour profile.
I have ordered from New Everest on several occasions and each time I have been blown away by the quality of the dishes. I highly recommend the chana masala, kadai chicken and shahi paneer, but quite honestly you could choose anything on the menu and be left satisfied.
I highly recommend this restaurant and will be a returning customer for the foreseeable future. I would honestly serve my traditional Indian parents food from this...
