It’s the time of the year when rain and gloomy skies call out for hearty soups and stews to make us feel warm and cozy again. Trailing for that Gamjatang craving all fall and winter long baby! Only one area around the city to aimlessly drive around to choose which to satisfy all the cravings. This little strip of 34Ave is packed with hidden treasures of small mom-pop Korean eateries, you won’t have to wander far before you stumble onto a storefront that catches your eye. Opened a couple months back, Miga had a surge of popularity with attention spurring over their hot plates that made up of cheese and rice cakes. Not a fan of either, my interest to try out Miga wasn’t peaked until I saw their full menu floating around online, extensive list!
Soft Clear Noodles with Beef and Vegetables - Japchae - ($18) - Lacked flavoring, I’m use to the subtle sesame oil taste in most of the Japchaes’ that I order which this lacked. So for me this one was pretty bland. Noodles were nice and soft, impressed with how long the noodles were too.
Pork Neck Bone Soup - Gamja-Tang - ($15) - Pretty solid bowl! Had three very generous sized bones with ridiculously tendered meat. Didn’t need any spoon action, meat flaked off with just a scrape from the chopsticks. Which guarantees that the soup had plenty of flavor. Had a sharp kick of spice which balanced really well with the savory meat bites. But like the first dish, was missing some of flavor, perilla seeds and pepper topped on top usually adds that additional subtle kick that blends well with the spice, which wasn’t provided in this. Also worth noting that with how flavorful the soup was, the potatoes were really bland.
Korean Style Barbecue Short Ribs - Galbi - ($28) - Gorgeous coloring with a strong savory marinade that resulted in an amazing caramelized crust on the edges of each rib. Worth getting your hands dirty, and no judgement if you start gnawing on that bone- Which you definitely should.
BANCHANS! We had five, cubed radish kimchi - seasoned bean sprouts - fish cake - pickled cabbage - potato salad - THE POTATO SALAD WAS BOMBS GUYS. They mixed bits of potatoes with macaroni and raisins and omg… I should have asked for more.
Overall really satisfied with dinner at Miga! The shop is cozy and clean with plenty of seating. Service was extremely friendly and relaxed. Portions are also huge, and prices were fair. I’d come back and recommend! It’s also right beside Pocha Seoul .. talk about...

When people mention Korean food, they usually think of Korean BBQ or fried chicken.
Miga is wonderfully neither of those things. Instead, this Korean restaurant is dedicated to the Japanese dishes of Tonkatsu and Udon.
Tonkatsu is panko breaded cutlet of meat, usually pork, chicken or even beef. Here you find the BEST katsu in Edmonton.
This place is truly a hidden gem.
While here, definitely try their different tonkatsu sets; these are the pork cutlets. Rosu katsu (pork tenderloin) seems slightly fattier than Hire Katsu (pork loin) but if you’re not sure, they have a set that has both kinds. The dish is served with rice, miso soup, some pickled veggies and some fresh sesame for grinding to mix with the tonkastsu sauce.
If you want something of softer texture, give the chicken katsu a try. For all the katsu dishes, the batter is very light and fluffy and not overly deep fried. The portions are quite filling as well.
Coming here is a treat. The prices can be considered premium and you definitely get quality food. Having been here a couple of times, I would highly recommend it to anybody wanting to...
Read moreI love Korean resto for side dishes, bbq’s,fried chicken and bibimbap. Which all of that this resto was lacking. Ordered deep fried chicken 100% clear about that but the lady brought us deep fried chicken with sweet and sour. She keep on existing that’s my order,I just let it slide. Were a large group and expecting a hot pot that’s why were requesting a table with cooking thingy in the middle but our request was not granted and the lady said NO COOKING,EVERYTHING COOK INSIDE weird ‘coz this is not the first time we eat in a korean resto. We request a table like that for a reason ‘coz we want a hotpot means a hot soup right!!! We still ordered, food wasn’t explain that was individual portion I even told her we want to share she still suggest the individual portion. I guess for us to pay more. The food was either bland or salty the bbq’s that was usually tender was so dry and chewy eww. Very dissappointing paid almost $300 for nothing. Will NEVER EVER go back to this place again. I suggest Korean best fried chicken in gateway way better...
