We have become regulars diners at Saffron for over a year as this south side restaurant has become one of our go to spots for spicy comfort food. The venue is noticeably polished while this cleanliness standard has been maintained throughout our experience. I will mention I find the venue to be brighter than preference due to a personal light sensitivity however, we usually opt for a semi private booth in a slightly dimmer section. The modern interior is perfectly set up for events and get togethers with an open concept design for the majority of the restaurant which includes a lovely bar. While we don't regularly purchase alcohol within this venue they do have a large list of house cocktails at a reasonable price point. We currently have favourite dishes at Saffron that we regularly order being; The Chili Paneer with a substitute of Cauliflower instead of Paneer. As Saffron offers options of spice level to their dishes this crispy cauliflower dish can be ordered mildly spicy with tons of flavor available or a high spice level that will provide a sure kick to your taste buds. I would recommend to order the milder version if you are new to spice. Alongside this we also order The Lamb Curry, this is a regular dish of choice for us anywhere we go and have never been disappointed here no matter the spice level. However, I have personal preference for a medium or higher option of spice level for curries in general and continue this trend here. We have also ordered and enjoyed The Goat Curry as well. A side of basmati coconut rice, gluten free roti and peppermint tea with honey accompanies our meal as this provide a lovely sweet side to our normally spicy dishes. If you do not have any sensitives or allergies I would highly recommend to upgrade specfically to their Garlic Naan ( not pictured ) as this always comes out hot and is the perfect match for any Curry. Seating has always been quick alongside attentive service with short wait times. That being said the wait is always worth it, as we leave with the satisfaction of a full service meal that somehow mananges to also bring us the comfort that is usually only brought to you with home cooking. As always, we look forward to...
Read moreIs there a way I can give 0 stars? I unfortunately had a horrible experience at the south side location on Valentine's day. my husband daughter and I came in for our reservation at 630 for dinner. We sat there for over 45min without even a menu on the table. This is my husbands favourite restaurant so we are regulars at this establishment. It took over an hour for our cocktails to reach the table which they messed up on. At this point we were starting to catch up on major attitude and disrespect coming from the staff. We happened to notice that all the other table that were sat after us that also happened to be the same culture as the servers (Indian) were already eating their food. An hour and 45min after we sat down we finally received our lamb that we had ordered. This dish is usually served on a sizzling plate but it was not today. We politely asked the server if they had one and they told us they were all out.... We were sitting there for almost two hours and not once did we hear /see a single one come out.. A few minutes later they started walking out with them serving the Indian tables with the sizzling plates. At this point we felt so disrespected and attacked that we just wanted to pay our bill and leave. Unfortunately it was Valentine's day and every where else was so busy we had no choice but to just go home. All in all it was probably one of the worst restaurant experiences iv ever had. The amount of racism...
Read moreWe have eaten here several times now, and the experience and food have been consistent without exception. The wait staff have been very pleasant and polite with us, and they have gone out of their way to be friendly with our 2 year-old son (so much so, in fact, that our boy held the hand of the lady who seated us and gave her a hug before we left).
Thus far, we have tried the Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Masala, Chicken Karahi, Butter Chicken, Coconut Rice, Coconut Naan, and Mango Lassi. Of note, the vindaloo was the 'right' level of spicy hot in my opinion (be careful, however, as I am happy to eat ridiculously hot food), while the chicken tikka masala and chicken karahi both embodied subtle smoky flavours along with their rich, savoury sauces. Needless to say, regardless of the dish, we have been universally happy with the quality and flavour, and make involuntary 'yummy' noises with every new bite.
Portion sizes are such that one dish plus naan and rice would satisfy two people, although it's always nice to try a couple of things and take leftovers home. Prices are reasonable and comparable to typical family restaurants. The decor is simple, tasteful, and upscale; at first glance, you might feel under-dressed compared to the wait staff, but luckily (for me especially), there is no need to get dressed up for a visit.
I happily recommend Saffron Indian Cuisine for their great food, staff, and...
