I ate a memorably poor meal at this restaurant. It was awful. Every dish was bad. The textures, flavours & composition were awful.

When asked if we were enjoying our meal, we were honest. We told the server that we did not like the food and we gave specific feedback on each dish and why we did not like it.

The restaurant staff were utterly indifferent to our negative experience.

We paid our bill & left.

Thankfully I will never allow myself to be drawn to this little piece of gastronomic hell ever again. What was most galling was that the staff — after asking whether we liked our food — was utterly indifferent & unresponsive when provided with honest feedback.

The fish that we were served actually smelled old & stale. The rice was almost like a porridge. The chicken was tasteless & incredibly greasy. Frankly the food I was served should have been thrown in the garbage — it was just that bad

UPDATE: The restaurant manager today, after I posted my review, offered to give me back half of the money I spent at their restaurant if I would agree to take down my review.

The total cost of the meal I ate there with my wife & daughter was $135.85. 50% of that amount is $67.93.

Apparently, for this business, integrity & truth can be sold for less than $70.00.

I wonder if this restaurant has a “policy” of attempting to pay off bad reviews to be taken down since that was exactly what they did with me. My negative feedback on a terrible, stale, badly cooked meal was utterly worthless to them until I posted a review.

It is what it is.

There are many other sushi restaurants in the Edmonton area that I will frequent again. I gave Shoyu Sushi a chance, but I will not do that again.

They can keep my $68.00 if a refund is contingent on me essentially lying about my experience here and taking down my review.

It’s disturbing that this restaurant would prefer to pay off customers to take down bad reviews than to fix their food. I hope others don’t fall into the same trap...

Our Go-To Ramen and Sushi Haven

My family and I have been regular patrons of this fantastic ramen and sushi restaurant for quite some time now. It's not just a restaurant to us; it's a cherished part of our lives. We are greeted with warm smiles every time we walk through the door, and the food never ceases to amaze us.

The Tonkutsu ramen here is simply unbeatable. It's a dish that my kids ask for every week without fail. The rich, flavorful broth and the perfectly cooked noodles make it a comforting delight. The sushi, on the other hand, is a work of art. The presentation is exquisite, and the taste is even better. Every bite feels like a culinary adventure.

What sets this restaurant apart is not just the food but the atmosphere. We've celebrated numerous special events here, from birthdays to simple dine in with friends and families. The staff goes above and beyond to make these occasions memorable. They treat us like family, and that's what makes this place so close to our hearts. They even play our genre of music every time!

I've recommended this gem to my colleagues, and they, too, have fallen in love with it. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience. If you're looking for incredible ramen, sushi that's a work of art, and a place to create lasting memories, this is the spot. We couldn't be more thankful for having found it. It's a solid 5-star experience every...

We went here during lunch rush hour. The place was busy, and we were seated at the last available table. However, we weren't informed that the food would take long to be served to us (for almost an hour). There was a lady who ordered her food 30 minutes before we arrived, and after 1 hour, she still didn't get her order until she just left. The starters - salad was served after 10 minutes and miso soup wasn't served until after 20 minutes and it was cold. The food was okay so I gave it a 3 but the service is really bad. I have gastritis, and I should be eating my food on time. If not, I would get very acidic and my stomach would hurt alot. When I got home, as what I expected, my gastritis attacked again because of the waiting time. There were a lot of customers who waited for their food for almost an hour. The staff were apologetic, but we would have appreciated it more if they informed us right when we got seated so we could have decided if we'd stay or go to a different place. Especially for me since I can't eat not on time. As much as I would like to try this place again, I will not come...

I went to this place today and I was pleasantly surprised for the most part. The service was very nice, the server could answer any questions I asked, she was very knowledgeable and polite. The only complaint(if it could be called a complaint) would be that she neglected to tell us her name. Would've loved to call her out for her exceptional service. Appetizers were good, just filling enough for the main course. I had chicken karaage and cream cheese wontons. Very delicious, probably slightly more enjoyable than the main dish but that's because I love deep fried food. For the main dish I ordered the chefs choice sushi platter, my cousin got the sashimi platter. It was good enough that I couldn't tell if most of the sushi was frozen previously or not....MOST of the sushi that is. Despite what some of these reviews say, I know for sure that the regular salmon(not wild) has been frozen before. That's okay though, everything tasted delicious. Everything was pleasant, nothing stood out as amazing but I would come here again for some of the only good sushi in Edmonton.

Ok retraction. They are not closing. Thanks, goodness. I'm happy to hear that. I'll have to gonscold the person who told me this. Yes, yes, still one of my favorites visit the resto if you need extremely tasty sushi!! Update I heard they are closing as of October 7!! I'm sad to hear this. If anyone is looking for sushi, good sushi. Flood their restaurant so they can stay open!!! I've been back 4 tes.since my review. Delicious every time! My friend and I loved it!!! It was delicious. We will be back for sure. Just 2 recommendations. The sashimi , my friend, felt it should served over ice. We both thought it would be nice to have Japanese music playing. The staff was extremely friendly and they explained and answered our questions. Other than that!! Wow, my Hawaiian roll was the best thing ever!!! The food is still spectacular. I had the Mexican roll. The tuna tacos and gyoza. My friend had the mango roll and spicy tuna roll. Everything was delicious. Again great food!!!

We dropped by Shoyu Sushi downtown around 5 PM last Friday. The ambience was just okay, but the service was friendly and pretty efficient. The food was tasty overall, though some of the rolls didn’t hold together very well—maybe a bit of an inexperienced hand behind the sushi bar that day. We started with the assorted tempura, and the dipping sauce that came with it was actually a standout—really flavorful. I tried their lychee cocktail, which was delicious and super sweet—probably best as a one-and-done drink. For the main course, we ordered the Maki & Roll Tray (57 pieces for $78)—a mix of double shrimp roll, salmon mango roll, rainbow roll, California roll, dynamite roll, BC roll, cucumber maki, and salmon maki. It was a solid variety and tasted good, though I wouldn’t say it was the highest quality sushi I’ve had for the price. All in all, it was a decent experience. Good flavors, fair service, but slightly on the pricey side for what you get.
