FIRST A WARNING TO ALL PATRONS CONSIDERING THIS LOCATION, ONLY PARK IN THE SYPHAY PARKING LOT ALLOCATED OUT FRONT OF RESTAURANT! DO NOT PARK IN DELAPITATED OLD CHINESE MARKET ACROSS THE WAY OR YOUR VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED IMMEDIATELY! We parked there and found our vehicle was being set to tow after being inside Syphay for approx 30 minutes. Milestone towing/A2Z Towing services promptly showed up to tow our vehicle. We ran outside immediately and we're told for $100 they would not tow, otherwise the tow would be charged at $250 plus impound fees and fines! What a scam! We moved our vehicle immediately and then witnessed Milestone towing/A2Z Towing immediately load up another vehicle which had been there approx 10 minutes and tow it away! THERE IS ONLY ONE TINY SIGN THAT STATES "PRIVATE PARKING AND VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED "UPON ENTERING THIS LOT BENEATH FOLIAGE OF A TREE. DO NOT PARK THERE OR YOUR MEAL WILL BE THE MOST EXPENSIVE MEAL YET!
Ok, now about Syphay itself and the food. Restaurant was clean and the food was delicious. Highly recommend anything with the green curry. We also tried the pad thai, it was very good but had to ask for more cilantro as there was minimal of it placed on top of dish. We did the chicken and shrimp option and I found there was plenty of both for the $2 upcharge.
We also tried the trio appetizer it was OK but in the future would just go straight to main courses as this is where Syphay excels.
Service was friendly and reasonably quick.
Park accordingly to the above warning and you will have an enjoyable meal here! (Many patrons ran out to move their vehicles from there when they over heard me state to service staff I had to leave to save my car and would be...
Read moreUsually the food here is amazing. What we received last night had unexpected flavours, looked strange and was just far below the typical quality of this place. We ordered take out last night (New Year’s Eve): spring rolls, green curry with tofu, and pad siew with tofu. Only the spring rolls lived up to the usual quality. We aren’t veggie we just like tofu in Thai food. The tofu in both dishes looked bizarre and had a weird texture like they were soaked in food colouring or a browning sauce. In the green curry, the sauce and especially the tofu was an unnatural vibrant green-blue. The tofu was such a deep brown in the pad siew we weren’t sure what it was until tasting. The pad siew was especially flavourless with no distinct flavour between any of the ingredients, only a mild hint of fish sauce, and the texture unusually squishy like maybe it was overcooked? We ordered half an hour before closing but live close enough to pickup ASAP. We gave a tip over 20%. We barely ate any of it. I’ll try to capture pics of how weird the tofu looks. The colour of both dishes has seeped out of the tofu a bit so they don’t look as crazy now as they did last night. But we just washed the bowls that had green curry in them last night and the water turned blue. I’m just confused the presentation was so odd and quality...
Read moreMy friends and I have enjoyed dining here over the past number of years but our recent experience has heavily disappointed us. To be clear, we genuinely enjoyed the dishes that were ordered. The food quality of Syphay has never failed to disappoint us over the years. However, the same cannot be said for that service.
In all of our years of dining at Syphay, we have never felt so disrespected and disregarded by the male waiter who served us that night. Not only did we sense his quick impatience with our orders, but he even stormed off with his hand raised as we were trying to order an additional dish (we had asked him to keep the menu to potentially order more). He would come by twice afterwards in complete silence to pour us water, without asking how the food was or if we needed anything further. Needless to say, the poor service completely overshadowed the rest of the evening as well as the lack of heat (as we've been looking forward to dining here for weeks). Was not an enjoyable experience eating with your winter coat on.
Usually, the service we’ve received at Syphay from prior occasions has been warm and welcoming. However, our recent experience was the exact opposite as we felt our presence was unwanted and depreciated. We don't intend on dining here again until the quality of service has...
