I'm confused as to why this place is getting good reviews. Maybe my partner and I had a one off, terrible experience, but seriously I don't understand how this place is still open. First off, we ordered the fried cheese, which came to us cold and wasn't even the right cheese. It was a block of chewy old Mozzarella. I ordered the spanikopita (one of my favorite dishes ever) and let me tell you, after 2 bites it was not hard to realize that it had been frozen and was very old. Not surprising that I'm not feeling well today. My partner ordered a dish that came with soup. It came with a dirty soaked napkin lying on the plate, soaking the rest of his food (old frozen flavourless meatballs). Never have I seen this practice in another restaurant. Not even kitchen nightmares. The service was also the worst either of us have experienced. The server was on speaker phone every time she'd come to our table. Clearly she did not want to be working there anymore. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to a single person. If you go here, don't be surprised if you get...

I had the spinach pastry for an appetizer and the marinated chicken with Caesar salad and potatoes for my meal. Everything tasted phenomenal. I normally don't like cooked spinach but that stuffed pastry was very tasty. Dipped in the sauce served alongside it, it was an excellent opening dish. The potatoes I had with my meal were also superb. They were very moist and packed with flavour, but they didn't fall apart on the fork when I dipped them. An excellent sweet spot.

The chicken however, was the main attraction. Served on pita bread with tomatoes, onions, and a perfect amount of spice and oil, it was without a doubt the best chicken souvlaki I have had in quite some time. It was cooked so the outside was crispy but the inside was moist and so flavourful.

The service was prompt and friendly, everything arriving right as I wanted it. The decor is very charming, and the music they play is an excellent accompaniment to the food I was served. A great experience and one I intend to...

Went to Oil Lamp for the first time and decided on lunch on a Saturday. The place was empty at 1:15 PM but that was not too surprising since it was a later lunch time and also the weekend. The server was also the owner and was very friendly and helpful. This is an old school place and has been around for 18 years - the decor hasn’t changed but I liked that.

The lunch specials that we ordered were around $18 each, which was very reasonable as they all came with two sides each. We had the beef gyro and roasted lamb - both were delicious. They also have Greek Mythos bottled beer, which is tasty and something I never tried. The owner was very accommodating of our one year old child and brought a high chair out for us and was very forgiving of the mess that was made below it.

This place is wonderful and we will...

The Oil Lamp is a lesser Greek restaurant that borders between the downtown core and the inner city. It's not the most ideal location but it is worth the visit. The family run establishment has a cozy feel to it. Though some of the space is getting old, it still has some charm. But when you have your location near the inner city, you also often get some visitors. On this day, a homeless man was at the front talking to himself and wandering about. The service is good. The lady is not the friendliest of wait staff. But she was helpful and we were eventually able to make her smile. The food is wonderful. You can tell it is all more freshly homemade rather than pre-packaged or prepared. 4 x 🧆🧆🧆🧆
