Long post ahead.
Rooms were fine, but the the lack of professionalism and hospitality from some of staff made our stay extremely disappointing.
We stayed at this Marriott during the Edmonton Marathon, and while we expected the hotel to be busy, the service and hospitality were far below what we’ve experienced at other Marriotts.
At check-in, there were two staff at the front desk (one male and one female), but only the male staff was assisting guests at our time of arrival. He was polite but rushed, gave us little to no information about the hotel or amenities, and it felt like he just wanted to move the line along. After checking in, we were unsure how to use valet since no one explained the process, and the valet attendant was nowhere to be found. We approached the female staff near the front desk (the one closest to the hotel’s main entrance), and instead of listening to our question, she sarcastically asked if we were with another family ahead of us. When we said no, she assumed we were trying to skip the check-in line and told us to go to the back, completely ignoring that we were already checked in and just wanted to ask about valet. She cut us off and moved on to the family in front of us.
When we finally found the valet attendant, he, too, was unfriendly and unhelpful. This was surprising, as we’ve stayed at many hotels and never encountered valet staff this dismissive. Overall, it felt like the staff were unhappy to assist guests.
Later, when we called the front desk to ask about the nearest ice machine, a female staff member told us it was on the 2nd floor. After searching with no luck, we went back to ask in person. A male staff member then told us it was only on the 7th and 11th floors. At that moment, the same female staff suddenly said there was one on the 4th floor, which the male staff immediately contradicted. Clearly, there’s a training issue here, as staff should be giving consistent and accurate information.
The next morning, we went down for our complimentary breakfast (we had received a coupon at check-in). We weren’t sure if we were at the right place, so we asked the valet attendant (the same one from the day before). His response was, “There’s no complimentary breakfast,” without even looking at our coupon. When we showed him the voucher, he backtracked and said we could go in, adding that complimentary breakfast is not usually offered. That wasn’t even what we were asking. We only needed confirmation we were in the right place. Again, his attitude was dismissive and unwelcoming.
The room itself was fine, nothing to complain about there. But the service we experienced from multiple staff members. From the front desk to valet was rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful. For a Marriott, this was one of the worst experiences we’ve had, and it left us feeling more frustrated than welcomed. Staff here clearly need more training in hospitality and...
Read moreThe girls in the lobby were excellent! Tamy, Mary and Gaman were always so helpful, cheerful and accommodating. We were well greeted and the hotel room and restaurant information was patiently and thoroughly given. We stayed at the Junior Suite with Two Queens. It was very spacious as well as the bathroom and the "kitchen" area. Everything was impeccable. The whole room felt very luxurious, modern and stylishly decorated while having a relaxing ambience. The room was very quiet and soundproof. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion were given very generously which not all hotels do.
We loved that we could use the Marriot App where we had room service request options of things we needed/wanted to be delivered to our room, such as run out toiletries, more bedding items, or extra housekeeping. The app also has a chat available for other requests where the front lobby staff were always prompt in replying.
We loved that we could check the restaurants/room service menu on our room's TV (which had Netflix and various TV channels: sports, movies etc.). The food was absolutely magnific, the dishes were unique, and they have from basic ones (that everybody likes) to exotic, delicious ones. The food portions were very generous too!
We loved that there was self service laundry on site. We also used dry cleaning service which did an excellent job.
Only thing that they could improve: Pillows were very flat, we had to use 2 pillows to sleep and yet they weren't comfortable.
The mattress were very comfortable and high quality.
Housekeeping was great. One time we left our room a mess as we were doing our luggage, our valuables were left out in the open because we were planning to come back really soon. We took longer than expected and when we came back our room was pristine and all our valuables untouched. We were so grateful.
The dome dining was wonderfully unique and I made a separate review for that. Make sure to make a reservation. Satish treated us wonderfully there as well.
I absolutely recommend this hotel. Prices were very fair, meals were so generously served and the service/attention given was excellent. The building is so beautiful, modern, inside-out (situated on the hill and next to the river) and the location is the best in the city. It was a luxurious experience. We are not from Edmonton so this will be a beautiful memory for us. Thank you so much...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights. Thank goodness it was only for two nights. My fiancé and I chose a hotel that was downtown Edmonton because we were going to a concert and wanted to be close to the venue and then the rest of our week in Edmonton, we booked somewhere else.
The first thing noticed was how tiny the washroom was. Literally, the door to the washroom nearly was touching the toilet. The washroom wasn't the cleanest, although, not the dirtiest, but the shower just looked like it was "clean enough". We also only had ONE ROLL of toilet paper and had to call front desk for more toilet paper. The toilet was constantly running, and so my fiancé had to constantly be fiddling with the back of the toilet. The shower had 3 different things tacked to the shower wall (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) and one of them was on the shower floor cuz it fell off the wall when we got there. Not a good look. The room was so tiny, but one of the biggest icks I got from this place was that the bedding was definitely dirty! The sheet and duvet had stains on it and the rim of the duvet was like, brown and some red spots that looked like blood. Even my fiancé who travels a lot and stays in grungy motels was grossed out by it, and so, we asked for new bedding which they did bring up and it was better, but it ruined the stay there because all I kept thinking was "what else is gross here?" The last night we were there, thank goodness was the last because some time in the middle of the night, I couldn't sleep and had the TV on whilst my partner was sleeping and I felt something land on the top of my head. My reflexes kicked in and there was nothing there, so I thought I was imagining things until I sat up for a second and noticed a bug crawling on my pillow!!! I woke my fiancé up and he grabbed the bug and threw it in the toilet. Apparently it was a beetle. I literally was crying and had a hard time getting to sleep because of it. The morning we left was an amazing moment because we both hated it there and like I said, my fiancé has had to stay in some pretty cheap motels and he never complains about anything but he hated his stay here. It didnt help that it was basically 200 a night. The next hotel we went to was cheaper, nicer area, and was VERY nice to the point where I was actually sad to be leaving. So yeah. Definitely check the...
