Haven’t been here in years, but won’t bother going back.

I ordered takeout and stood in the lobby the whole time. After a little more than 15 minutes, the kitchen brought 3 boxes out and the girl at the front never addressed me to find out why I was standing there. She helped another group first, who even pointed to me to tell her I was waiting first. I responded and said I was just waiting for my food and pointed at the 3 boxes the kitchen just brought out. She helped the new group to their table. She came back to the front and went behind the bar to make drinks, answered the phone, helped more new people. At this point I’m thinking, ok, that’s not my food. It’s her job to give it to me when it’s ready. Surely she would do that. 10 minutes go by and the kitchen brings out 3 more boxes and places them next to the first. This girl still doesn’t address me to find out why I’m still standing there. New people come in again and she goes to deal with them again. This time I interrupt and ask if that’s my food. She asks my name and checks the receipt on the most recent box, not mine. Then she checks the receipt on the food that’s been sitting there for 10 minutes. It’s mine.

She starts to bag it and I walk over and say, no, this food has just been sitting here going cold. I’m not taking it. I want a refund. More staff come out, some apologize, say they can get me a refund or cook it new. I’m In no mood to wait another 20 or more minutes. I ask if they think I really should pay full price for food that I watched sit there for 10 minutes and grow cold. The woman said she would give me a discount. That was an ok solution for me. I wanted to bring home dinner, but I don’t think it was fair for me to be ignored for so long while my food just sat there. But then out comes a guy from the kitchen who said I can take the food, or I can leave it there and they’ll throw it out or he’ll bring it home for his kids because it’s perfectly good. He completely dismissed me. Basically he said the food is full price or nothing. He threw in some tortilla chips as I was bagging the food myself and leaving. A bad experience and bad customer service moment. I didn’t think the food went bad in 10 minutes, but I did think the quality did as it steamed in the boxes getting soggy and cold. I felt heard and respected by one of the staff members who jumped in to help, but not by him. And not by the solution whereby I took my lukewarm food for full price.

The food was predictably cold when we went to eat it. I used to call this place the best Mexican restaurant in Edmonton. Sadly, it seems to have lost something that made it taste unique and it wasn’t just down to the soggy batter on the pescado. I think a sauce that used to make it so cravable was missing. All three taco varieties seemed to be missing something that used to make me go there. It didn’t taste any different from any other Mexican restaurant. I miss the old flavours from 7 or so years ago. It’s not worth the drive for me anymore. Not to mention the huge price increase. Pretty sure I used to get 3 tacos for about $14. Now it’s $24 for 3. I know we’ve just had massive inflation, but that still seems steep to me for tacos. I guess I’ll be looking for a new favourite Mexican restaurant now....

We went on a Saturday evening and thru had live music which was awesome! The food was over the top amazing. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever about that. However our service was abysmal. We waited about 10 mins before our waitress came to the table for the first time. We ordered our food and drinks right then. Drinks came out pretty soon after and then the wait began. We had ordered chips and salsa to start and after about 30-35 mins we flagged down a different server to ask about them. Approx. 5 mins later another server not ours came out with our main courses. Then our waitress showed up with the chips and salsa. When she came back to the table awhile later to finally ask how everything was we told her we would like the starter taken off the bill as we likely wouldn't eat all of it now that our main was out as well. She proceeds to remove the salsa and chips from our table, thought better of it and left the salsa, but she did take the chips off. She went by our table several times to serve a large group of 8 that was getting her complete attention. I finally flagged her down and asked for water. She went to the other table with water first and went back and forth with 3 jugs before she finally got to us again. When we finished our meals she said she'd be back for our plates and didn't. Another server came and cleared our plates and that's when our server rushed over to clear them. Then we waited again for the bill. We were there for 1 hr 45 mins and the majority was spent waiting for different reasons. Anyways, it was such a disappointing experience service-wise. I'd be hesitant to return but the amazing food is a huge reason why we would be willing to...

It was my first time visiting Three Amigos with some friends and I decided to order the diablo enchiladas because I love spicy food and our server did warn me about the spice level. First impressions, it looked scrumptious and the smell was invigorating. However after a couple bites, I realized that it barely had a kick (spice level felt even less than sriracha) which is ironic given the name of the dish so I was quite disappointed. The pork carnitas inside was on the drier side, I tried to just dip it in the green sauce as much as I could. I didn't get much of the mango pico de gallo either which was a bummer because each bite was missing that refreshing aspect. This place is a bit more pricey therefore I'm not sure if I could say it's fully worth $27 from my experience. It could have just been an off day though so I would still come back to give other dishes a try though.

I would definitely recommend a reservation especially during the evening time as it gets busy. We did have to wait 10 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. Another unfortunate instance was that for my friend's order, her dish took forever to come out while the rest of us already had our food. It took another 15 minutes for her food to come out that everyone else was almost...

I'll have to give this place another try. Plenty of recommendations and great reviews but my visit here was meh. It just wasn't my night I guess. I would avoid the shareable dishes as they aren't really shareable and just awkward to divvy out. Specifically the Molcajete Flamdado. How do you share half a steak or a juvenile lobster tail? Is there an etiquette to sharing a single cob of corn between 3-4 people? I get what they are trying to do but it just seems poorly thought out. Plus the minimal favours within the bowl just blended together and it all tastes the same. I would say this dish is best for one person with a large appetite. Atmosphere was nice, inside is nicely decorated and gave us good Mexican vibes. Service was painfully slow, we had to flag down our waitress numerous times as she didn't bother to check in on us once. In conclusion, it's tough to fairly rate without trying the tried and true classics like tacos, quesadillas and such but this visit was a 2.5 for now.

Many of you are probably like me, you go straight to the bad reviews. Give me the dirt, let me know how bad it could be so I can be happily surprised. I read slow service and bland food. Ok. So we did our whole order in one shot and tried some of the bolder options. The verbatim transcript of the Queso Flameado follows: "oh wow" "so that's the cheese you were talking about" "okay that's awesome but try it with this" "yeah and then just on it's own" then just munching and chewing. The Torte Ahogado would have literally bellowed "Fake News!" if you tried to call it mild. I sincerely feel bad for those of you who through circumstance have had a bad experience here. Let time and tequila heal your wounds and try again. Give the wait staff some time, something fantastic is happening in the kitchen, you don't get pico de gallo to taste like this without some care. And if it takes a while to get seated it's because I'm enjoying my El Pitbolo.
