Jungle Jim's — Restaurant in Fredericton

I will never eat here again. This restaurant is disgusting. There's a thick layer of dust on most of the decor that is right above your head while you eat. The fish tank water was green and looked like it was being held together with drywall corners. One of the fish looked sick. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. She said they cleaned every night but it looked like a dirty grimey dive bar bathroom. The stalls and mirror had a layer of grime on them. I'm actually going to put in a health and safety complaint because I can only imagine what the kitchen is like. We waited almost an hour for our food after we ordered. Over half of the meals came out overcooked. All the fries were nearly inedible. Some meals were cold. A couple just tasted disgusting. Had we not waited almost an hour, we would have bothered to send everything back. It was a waste of time to ask for over half the meals to be redone. We had children and, despite how good they were being, we didn't want to risk making them wait another hour to get food remade. Two of the 9 meals were actually good, but the nasty ones over shadowed it. The waitress didn't take down some orders correctly and didn't bring things at the right time or didn't bring them at all. We then waited nearly 40 minutes for our bills. When I tried to calmly bring up the issues the wait staff were fairly quick to become defense and rude and questioning why I hadn't tried to send them back. They seemed to want very badly to blame us for disgusting food and terrible service. None of the bills came out correctly when they did come so we had to send them back. When they finally did come back with them another 10 minutes later they were still incorrect so we just figured it out amongst ourselves. When I asked if everyone had gotten their bills, as our whole party wasn't up to pay yet, the waitress snapped at me. I have extreme anxiety and ended up sobbing my entire drive home. I will never set foot in this place again. We absolutely loved this particular restaurant growing up and its quality is extremely lower than it used to be. We took our daughter out to lunch, though we would go someplace different that was a mistake. We asked for a table, we got a booth, got up and moved to a table, had to move again because a pipe was leaking in the ceiling onto my husband. Got our food, every one of our plates were cold. The toast my husband had was more like croutons it was so dried out, eggs were cold, bacon was hard as a rock, coffee was supposed to be included got charged for it, his hash browns were good because they came after he was almost done and were fresh. My daughter and I got the fish & chips. Her fish was rubbery, both of our fries were cold, I actually bit into a frozen one, the coleslaw tasted like the cabbage was rotten. We told our server, Catrina who was absolutely amazing and felt terrible about what happened, sent the food back. I'm assuming the manager, came over apologized and wanted to know if we wanted order something else or dessert on the house. We politely declined. My husband finished his because he was hungry. Catrina came over told us the manager would take 50% off mine and my daughter's meal but that's all he would offer. She gave a tickets with a free surprise item inside but we would have to come back to use them. Needless to say we left them on the table and will not be back. Our group of six was told to expect a 30 minute wait for a table, an hour later, we asked how much longer it would be and were told we were the next table. The hostesses proceeded to seat another table of 5 that arrived after us. After multiple other groups of similar size had arrived after us and been seated before us, and we clearly heard them ask for a table and say they did not make reservations, I asked the hostesses why we hadn't been seated yet. Both hostesses were rude and argumentative rather than apologetic for the oversight, both had avoided eye contact and we're rude from the moment we walked in (we assume it's due to the fact that we are a mixed race group and not everyone speaks english). Finally a hostess says flatly "there's an empty table behind you", she did not escort us to our seats or apologize for the wait etc. Once seated, our waitress was very pleasant and polite, the hostesses however shot dirty looks every time they walked by. Upon leaving we said thank you to the hostesses on the way out the door (we are a polite bunch!) and we were blatantly ignored.
