Bar Bacchus — Restaurant in Gatineau

On the 8th of December 2023 I went out with my friend for his birthday and came to the cigar lounge having great expectations in mind. Everything was going smoothly, I was enjoying my night until it came time to pay, I got haggled by the server on the amount I was tipping. It was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional how he behaved. I was having drinks with my friend and knowing that he wasn’t done drinking for the night I decided to pay the tab prior to him ordering more drinks. The server refused my payment and tried really hard to force my hand to tipping him more when I clearly stated that we weren’t done drinking and that I would tip him more before we left. After a long and uncomfortable conversation with the server he finally accepted my payment and mentioned that for my future visits I was no longer welcomed and will not be served. I went to my table to order more drinks and forget this unnecessary drama, when I noticed that I was being followed by the server. He then proceeded to inform my friend as well as all the customers sitting nearby of what had occurred. I remained calm while he let his emotions take control of the conversation. When he was finished I got up paid my last drink and left with absolutely no intention of ever going back. My friend felt badly and tipped him regardless of his complete and utter disrespect and unprofessional like behaviour. This is a fair warning if you plan on visiting the lounge and run into a middle aged man with white/ grey hair. Don’t bother sitting down unless you want to go through a similar situation. ( I unfortunately didn’t get his name, had I gotten it I would mention him.) Reading many reviews and certainly a variety of experiences. This review is about MY experiences only. I have been many times in 2024 and always have had an enjoyable experience. Cigar selection may be limited but has something for everyone. Will cut any way you like which is nice. Just ask first. Water on the table right away, drink not far behind. Wood matches. Big comfy leather chairs. Big cigar ashtrays. Great views. Always a warm welcome when I arrive. Have never made a reservation, not sure if they even take them but have not waited long for a table. As a solo patron I always tell them if they need a place for another solo patron and full I'm willing to share table. Have received a genuine smile and merci. I sill think "you get what you deserve" rings true. I've seen "snobs" treat staff like servants and still get service with a smile. A smile goes a long ways. I speak very little French and have NEVER had a problem here.

Update July 2025. Sadly, have not been able to enjoy a visit until tonight. Again, an extremely warm welcome. Service beyond compare. Is it wrong to feel spoiled? I think not. Especially from Eten and Chantal who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and more importantly,...

Convenient location with huge window overlooking lac Leamy. Could be very romantic for a winter date.

But, the decor is very outdated. And I really don't understand the weirdly mismatched furniture; it makes the space look cheap. And the huge fireplace is rarely working. Very far from the image that comes to mind when you think of the brand Hilton. Thankfully, they have nice artwork to look at.

The martinis and cocktails are interesting, but nothing necessarily super creative either.
