Houston Avenue Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Gatineau

Disappointed.. what should have been Fun for my wife’s Birthday (group of 18 Feb-6-2016) was disappointing. The Reason we go to Houston is the Food. It’s Fantastic. Although the Service was way below average. Read on.. A few Pointers. Dinner menus where not available to everyone ( 1 out of 3 had one) when ask, they said it’s because they had to many groups.. Ask for a beer .. 15 minutes before receiving it. Ask for Bread for the table.. never received it (30 minutes) so I had to asked Again while some had already started there appetizer re. Salad etc.. ( received within 5 Min..) We were never given the “table d'hôte” / Special”, Only after eating and talking to my Son, After did he mention to me that they had one!. Salt & Pepper / the pepper bottle was completely Empty! Really!! My wife had ordered “mushrooms” with her filet minion.. Never received it! Was told that her “order” was given to someone else ( in our group) so he had to re-order it. ~ While everyone eating , my wife.. re Birthday girl, had to wait.. Also she had to ask to keep her plate Warm.. while she needed to wait. After Dinner, my wife’s always take a caffe latte ~ Nop.. cant// machine broke! I then ask the waiter if they had anything “special” for birthdays.. she got a cheesecake, not sure if it was charged or not.. would have been Nice IF I would not had to Ask for it! Beside it’s her BD and were 18 in the group. I don’t care if it’s a Saturday and the place is busy.. Management should be aware of that and make the Adjustments etc. Note: I purchased 12 Gift cards from Costco (total $950) to give out to the our guess, to bad that they were also disappointed with the service.

The restaurant looks great and the food was decent . The service was awful . I went in today with my 2 daughters . There were many waitresses there and only 5-6 tables worth of people . We never had a drink refill (the busboy went for us once after 15-20 mins of waiting with the empties onto the side of the table as a hint .

Food wise my daughter took the kids meal tortellini and the sauce was just dry (no sauce) it looked like microwaved leftovers . My other daughter took the poutine with meat (adult menu) . It was passable . Sauce was very sweet to her liking .

I ordered fajitas . They give very little amount of wraps for the steak you get (i figured i can just ask for more later) , which also took so oong that another waitress came and gave me some after another 15 mins wait for just that (without any of the usual “are you guys okay” from the waitress) ran put of cheese also but at this point everyone just wanted to leave . The table behind me had the same issues .

Im not the karen usually but with so little people , I would have expected good service . I live next door and go out frequently . Unfortunately i think this will be my last visit to this establishment . Its too bad because its a nice spot and has nice decos and theme...

I've done a lot of reviews and there are potentially serious repercussions to what I write, yet, I try to be factual to my readers when I notice something wrong. I even spoke to many of the staff, including the manager of this establishment. They need professional intervention immediately! By this, I mean bring in Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen and REGULATE after a covert assessment of how they truly handle a party of people with reservations. All areas of what running what should really be a world class francise need to be addressed ASAP! Spare no expense! The manager knows something is wrong and the staff all feel it. This establishment is a gem in the rough that has yet to reach even 1/3 of its full potential. I spoke about pursuing a strategic business alliance with the nearby Casino. I want them to succeed, the manager did the right thing before we all left, but I will not go there until I see and heat of real change l from people I know. This francise needs to be run at the level of proficiency that was originally intended by the owners. Its smart...
