I have been here several times, and have always had excellent service and baking of the utmost quality. Get here early, as this is a proper bakery and so they only have goods until they don't. This is a good thing though, as only high quality products sell out fast. The Schinkenbrot is a lovely, dark, moist loaf of a generous size for the price, and is the best I have found anywhere. The sweet bread is exactly how it should be, golden on the outside with a slightly-but-not-overbearing sweetness, and a moist and fluffy but almost flaky interior. The pretzels are wonderfully chewy and delicious, and the cream horns are exquisite and flawless. The staff are always quick yet never rushed and always friendly. Defenitely deserves the five stars for consistently being better than expected, and if I had to pick a downside, the only one would be street parking is limited, but that's really not an issue. Great job and on a side note, they have a super cool door handle shaped...

I quickly know I am not buying tasteless Wonderbread, and I'm about to experience truly amazing flavor, particularly the rye and the sourdough. I get a bit annoyed because they don't have any prices in their pastry section, however, everything I have tried from there has been excellent. I can highly recommend the quark cheesecake (not too sweet) and the ginger bread people. Pretzels are also a chewy and delicious treat, and we particularly like the Black Forest Rye, the Sovital, the Bavarian Rye and the Shinken Brot breads. Also note that their butter-creme is not cloyingly sweet like you'd find in other bakeries. Limited parking in front. Not sure if there is a lot or additional parking nearby. Highly worth a trip there and you won't be...
ย ย ย Read moreArtisitc is a rustic, hearty German bakery. So while you'll see less mille-feuilles and tartes en citron, you'll see an amazing variety of breads like Bavarian Rye, Einkorn, Sovital, as well as a great selection of pastries like almond tarts, strudels, cream horns and the like. The pretzels and buns are great as well. There's also a section with lots of German jams, mustards and other packaged foods. The staff is really pleasant and helpful and seem to do a good job of getting people through fairly quickly. I think the bakery is still family owned which is a nice plus.
Honestly, this is tied with Duchess as my favorite bakery in the city. Whereas Duchess is an occasional visit when I want a sugar and creme rush, Artistic is my go-to for...
