A wonderful German bakery in south Edmonton that has been run by the same family for decades. The pretzels are, of course, exemplary along with their pretzel buns (pretzel buns are Friday and Saturday only). Their variety of pastries, tortes and pies are almost overwhelming on what to enjoy first! Danishes and the Quark Cheesecake are my personal favourites. The breads and buns are naturally sourdough leavened and have a deeper flavour because of it. It can be busy on Fridays and Saturdays, but like any independent bakery, itโ€™s best to call ahead if you want something specific. They have such a magical selection that going in on a whim is perfectly fine too!

Iโ€™m getting ready to host a German Exchange student for a few months and all my European friends and Germans on Reddit told me this is the place to buy the best bread in the area. They did not disappoint. I also ended up bringing home pretzels and sausage roll (I ate that in store because it was the best Iโ€™ve ever tasted). There werenโ€™t a lot of customers at the moment so my friend and I ended up chatting with the staff for a bit. They were so friendly and knowledgeable that we left there with the biggest grins. Absolutely the best bread I have tasted. I live out of town but this will be a weekly visit for me from now on.

The pretzel was really good. We ate it with some warm butter and jam. Loved it. The salt pieces on the pretzel are not a lot. Can easily pick or rub most of them off. Note that they run out of pretzels early. 4 left at 4 in the afternoon. Enjoyed the cream horn as well. I absolutely loved the brownie. Decedent and rich. The yellow one has some marzipan stuffed into cookie dough. You either like marzipan or don't. Will be back. They sell bread as well. $16 for the marzipan cookie, brownie, cream horn and 2pretzels.

I have been here several times, and have always had excellent service and baking of the utmost quality. Get here early, as this is a proper bakery and so they only have goods until they don't. This is a good thing though, as only high quality products sell out fast. The Schinkenbrot is a lovely, dark, moist loaf of a generous size for the price, and is the best I have found anywhere. The sweet bread is exactly how it should be, golden on the outside with a slightly-but-not-overbearing sweetness, and a moist and fluffy but almost flaky interior. The pretzels are wonderfully chewy and delicious, and the cream horns are exquisite and flawless. The staff are always quick yet never rushed and always friendly. Defenitely deserves the five stars for consistently being better than expected, and if I had to pick a downside, the only one would be street parking is limited, but that's really not an issue. Great job and on a side note, they have a super cool door handle shaped...

Hands-down the best German rye bread bakery in Edmonton!Every time I get a bread order, there is weight to the bag and aroma. I quickly know I am not buying tasteless Wonderbread, and I'm about to experience truly amazing flavor, particularly the rye and the sourdough. I get a bit annoyed because they don't have any prices in their pastry section, however, everything I have tried from there has been excellent. I can highly recommend the quark cheesecake (not too sweet) and the ginger bread people. Pretzels are also a chewy and delicious treat, and we particularly like the Black Forest Rye, the Sovital, the Bavarian Rye and the Shinken Brot breads. Also note that their butter-creme is not cloyingly sweet like you'd find in other bakeries. Limited parking in front. Not sure if there is a lot or additional parking nearby. Highly worth a trip there and you won't be...

Artisitc is a rustic, hearty German bakery. So while you'll see less mille-feuilles and tartes en citron, you'll see an amazing variety of breads like Bavarian Rye, Einkorn, Sovital, as well as a great selection of pastries like almond tarts, strudels, cream horns and the like. The pretzels and buns are great as well. There's also a section with lots of German jams, mustards and other packaged foods. The staff is really pleasant and helpful and seem to do a good job of getting people through fairly quickly. I think the bakery is still family owned which is a nice plus.

Honestly, this is tied with Duchess as my favorite bakery in the city. Whereas Duchess is an occasional visit when I want a sugar and creme rush, Artistic is my go-to for...
