BLAKBAR Tavern — Restaurant in Greater Strathcona

It's a very casual bar. You sit anywhere, order at the bar, and the staff will serve you at your table. I was there for a comedy nite. It was great time, so much fun! And the food, while not 5-star spectacular, was quite tasty and satisfying. I got a plateful of a ketchup-flavoured popcorn and then a big plate of nachos - the latter of which I intended to share but my friends got there too late, so I'd already scarfed it all down by the time they got there, lol. I guess I was hungry! Not so full of food that I couldn't also chug down a pint of Lucky, a can of Alley Kat Aprikat, and a rum...

My experience was ok. The live music and decor was great but the menu was difficult to read which is something that should never be the case.

The waitress was new it was her first night but she was kind of surly. Also we were not able to start a tab unless we gave her our credit card. I could understand if the bar was packed and we were milling about but everyone was seated at a table. Having to take money out of the machine and pay a service fee just led to me only having one pint and some wings...

Was exploring Whyte Ave looking for a place to eat at on Friday night. I felt out of place with all the young college kids running about, felt like I was in a daycare.

Saw this place and stopped inside, felt perfectly at home in this mature place. Lisa the bartender is a complete sweetheart taking excellent care of all of her guests.
