Amin's Indian Food — Restaurant in Halifax

I believe that Amin's is the very best South Asian food in Halifax, and the competition for that title has been deliciously intense over the last five years! The owners are absolutely lovely human beings who clearly take a great deal of pride in providing delicious, healthy, home-cooked food. They are passionate about flavours, and are always helpful in terms of making recommendations based on your tastes and desires. Amin's is one of those places where you can just turn up and say, "I'd like some food please!" and you know everything will be outstanding. Aside from frequenting their location at the Seaport Market for years, I have also catered food from them for family gathers, conferences, and workshops. They have been happy to work with me in each of these scenarios to cater to the dietary needs of my guests, bringing outstanding recommendations that have really blown the socks off of people. Most recently, I catered from Amin's for a work function that needed to feed about 20 people, some of whom were not familiar with Indian food and others who were extremely familiar with Indian food. People ate seconds, and thirds, and then fashioned take-home containers out of paper plates and transported leftovers home in the snowstorm because the food was just too good to stop eating. Everyone remarked that it didn't leave them feeling heavy, and that the blend of flavours was unlike any other they'd had. This speaks to my mind to the attention to detail - for example, the chutney is fantastic. I am Indo-Trinidadian, and in our cooking, chutney and sauces come first! I appreciate the innovative and creative takes on traditional chutneys they have, which elevates the flavour of the already delicious and perfectly seasoned dishes. Anyway, I have been eating at Amin's for at least 5 years now, catering my events from them, and have never had anything but the absolute best in terms of quality of food, quality of service. I wish I had photos to share, but we always gobble up the food too fast to think about photos, lol! If you haven't tried them, you're overdue...

I always go see them at the farmers market and they are extremely friendly and helpful. Wonderful service everytime and the food is consistently delicious, every new option I try I fall in love with. As a meat eater I was pleasantly surprised by the veggie curry with the tofu. The choice of firm tofu was perfect for this dish because I usually struggle to love the texture of it but in this dish it closely resembled the chicken of similar dishes. I only recently tried the tandoori chicken and I greatly regret it.... for not trying it sooner that is! Can't wait to keep coming back for more...

My partner and I enjoyed a meal at Amin's last weekend. Amin and his wife are lovely, and they are starting to remember us as frequent customers! Their butter chicken is rich and delicious. Served in a combo with rice and a samosa. The veggie samosas are fantastic.

It's an absolute pleasure to purchase from Amin's; I always feel like I've made their day when really it's me who gets to eat...
