This humble, quaint little café nestled on a side street in Fairview serves some of the most wonderful, satisfying food to be found anywhere in Halifax. If you have a penchant for healthy, exotic and spicy cuisine, this could be your ultimate food destination. Not only will the complexities of Ethiopian food fulfill your appetite's craving for true soul food, but simply the ambiance of the place is an adventure in and of itself. The owner and operator of the business, Tsehaye, will welcome you with open arms like an old friend. When the tray is brought out with injera made the true, authentic way with teff, you know immediately that you are in for an experience. The various gomen (vegetable) dishes are always prepared to delightful perfection, as are the alichas (milder dishes) and the signature wots (spicy, berbere-based recipes). She makes an oily, spice-laden red sauce used as a condiment that is absolutely to die for! The restaurant will be expanding in the future....

So happy that Halifax FINALLY has an Ethiopian restaurant! I've only eaten here twice, and each time for a weekday lunch. I can't find their actual online menu anywhere (even on the FB page) but both visits ordered the 'platter' that has the injera bread with a variety of 5 vegan items and 1 meat. Each thing is delicious, and next time I will have to actually capture the names of each item. The owner is very friendly. Cute decor. Reasonable prices. I know that this month the construction outside the cafe has negatively impacted traffic in the area - so I ask any Fairview folks within walking distance, to please give here a try if you have not already!
