Tried here for lunch on a sunny Wednesday in October. We got street parking on Demone St but I didn't see an actual lot anywhere, so there is potential to have difficulty finding a meter, although it's not that busy an area of the city...arrived at about 11:45 and we were the 3rd table seated of the day I think. It's quite large inside, with a lot of wasted floor space that could fit more tables, but maybe they don't think it would ever be needed. Simple decor, fair bit of natural lighting coming in the high windows (in a corner ground unit of a high-rise). There's a nice floral mural in the entranceway. Friendly service. I tried the Fresh Spring Rolls ($6.95 "Uncooked spring roll consisting of bean sprouts, cucumber, carrots, basil, coriander and glass noodles wrapped in a soft, thin rice paper. Served with our house tamarind sauce") - which were good, standard at every Thai restaurant I've ever been to. They must have misheard my order and thought I'd ordered regular spring rolls, because they brought those to the table first, but quickly came out with the right fresh rolls after I corrected them. Instead of an entree, I also tried the Thai Hot & Sour Soup - Tom Yam ($6.95 "Herb broth with fresh lime leaves, lemon grass, tomatoes, mushrooms, shallots and chilies" with chicken) and it was good, also very standard to what I've had at other Thai restaurants. My friend tried the BBQ Duck with Ginger lunch special (11.95 stir fried bbq duck with ginger, onion, celery, mushroom, red pepper atop rice with a friend spring roll). He liked it, but picked out a few pieces of the meat that were too fatty, and mentioned that he prefers the Burnside location where he goes semi-regularly. So, nothing exciting about here, but I would go back...
Read moreI was very excited to try the Pad Thai from this restaurant and was then very disappointed - not only with the food, but with the service and attitude of staff.
When I called to place my order, I asked if the "tofu and vegetables" pad thai was gluten free (I have an allergy). The person over the phone said "yes, we can make that gluten free." I picked up my order and when I sat down to eat it at home I discovered there was no tofu. The vegetables were also undercooked and the noodles were very sticky and starchy.
I called to let the restaurant know that they had missed a key ingredient (if you love tofu, you want tofu!). They told me "when we make it gluten free, we leave out the tofu because it is deep fried in the same fryer as other items with gluten". Fair enough - but when I told the person on the phone that they might want to tell people this when they are ordering, they were downright rude to me, saying "well, you'll know for next time." When I told them there likely would not be a next time, they took down my number and said that a manager would call me back that evening or the next day. It has now been three days. There will not be...
Read moreHad lunch here in the summer and came back for the pad thai recently. Pad Thai did not disappoint. In fact it is among some of the best I have had. Satay chicken was a huge disappointment. Satay is supposed to be grilled preferably by charcoal or wood. I would not even mind gas grill. But the satay skewers here showed up on the table deep fried still dripping with oil. I should have have had them returned to the kitchen. Penang curry was good, flavourful and well cooked. Spring roll was average — nothing special. Fried chicken wings were good but not sure why there were so many different sizes of wings. Some were your average supermarket cuts; others, maybe a pigeon?? Made an easy dish look lousy. The sauces for the wings were fine however. Serving staff were great, with kind manners. Will come back for the service and pad Thai and maybe try some other curries. But that’s about it.
wanted to return them. Came back recently for dinner with family. dinner here recently. Pad Thai is among some...
