The size and speed of service was very quick but nothing else about this Donair shop was enjoyable. It's a hole in the wall and super grungy which is fine if you sell some of the best food in the city but this was the kind of Donair I would expect to get at a highschool cafeteria.

To start, only offering onions and tomatoes as a vegetable option is lazy and inexcusable in the competitive market for stellar donairs. This might have been acceptable when they were the only product in the market, but with Donair places all over Canada offering pickles, lettuce, radish, turnips, hot peppers, and other delicious toppings, king of Donair ought to step up its game.

The meat was dry, which I understand since they likely had to adapt to the horrible e coli outbreaks of the 90s and early aughts that plagued many spit-fired meat vendors, but it was shredded and dry. What is the point of having the Donair meat on the spit if you're just going to cut it all off hours in advance only to slightly warm it up on the flat top before serving it? Keep it in a sealed container and let the moisture of the meat stay with it so it doesn't degrade into a sandy piece of garbage.

The sauce was starting to separate or was otherwise made in such a way as to be a globby mess. It was sweet and sticky with an unsatisfying lack of nuance or flavour.

The wrap itself was double layered in foil instead of a wax paper liner with a foil outer layer and it dripped everywhere. I had to discard the final third of my wrap to avoid soiling my clothes.

Overall this was an entirely disappointing meal and I would never go back to this place. I have gotten better donairs from a stand at a mall.

KOD stands for keep on dying, as the business has clearly changed hands and the shortcuts to keep the business afloat has undermined the history of...

We are from Ontario & I've wanted to share the KOD experience with my kids, as I have loved it since I attended Dalhousie in the early 90's. What a sad experience it was. I ordered at 8:10pm & was told it would be 40 to 50 minutes. At 9:30, I called as I still didn't have any food. I was told that they ran out of meat & my order would be a further 20mins. I expressed my disdain at not informing their customers & that a discount should be in order. They basically told me that they are too busy & they wouldn't do anything to compensate me for the delayed order. My delivery arrived 2 hours after it was placed at a hotel that is only a 6 minute drive away! I sent the entire order back, if they can't make good on their promise and are not ready to serve their customers, they don't deserve the patronage! Save your time money & frustration & order from Tony's (especially if you are a tourist at a downtown hotel). They delivered as promised & everything...

This place (King of Donair in Quinpool, Halifax branch) is becoming seriously uncooperative and forceful to its customers day by day.

Like it has been thrice in a row that I went to order for a donair pizza slice. And every single time they were like "Oh, our sales are going too less now. So we cannot give you donair pizza slice, but you can take whole donair pizza from us"

I wish that I could have explained the situation better but they were literally very forceful and uncooperative to take my single donair pizza slice offer. As a result, they did not accepted my Donair pizza slice offer. Instead they were literally forcing me to take whole donair pizza instead of slice!!!!!!

Please give what a customer actually expect from you. I do not want whole pizza from you, just wanted a slice. So please give me that slice only, don't manipulate me to buy the whole pizza.

You cannot play with me like this every time I go there, literally...

There is nothing fancy about King of Donair (KOD). It's a typical fast food style restaurant, but after having driven and walked past KOD for over 35 years, it's has become a historical landmark. Montreal has Schwartz's, Halifax has KOD (without the lineup). Now that I live in the US, a stop at KOD is a must whenever I visit Halifax. Don't be fooled by othe claims, this is the standard for a Donair in Canada. I won't try to discribe what a Donair is (pronounces "Doh-nair" in NS, not "Daw-ner", as they do in other parts of the world) - you can search that on the internet yourself - but will say, you simply have to try it. Take note, eating a Donair is very, very messy. You will need a big wad of napkins and you will get the sauce all over your face (and possibly clothes.) At the end, you will be left with sticky, greasy fingers and hands, but then again, that's part of the KOD Donair experience. Enjoy!

Have you ever wondered what heaven tastes like? Wait, you haven't? Well then, this place will light up your taste buds beyond human comprehension. At first, I thought Donairs would be a random off-split of a shawarma. I mean, it basically looks like a veggieless version of one. Oh how I was so wrong. It starts off with a pita. Stuffed with a ton of donair-meat. Topped with a reasonable amount of onions and a dash of tomatoes. Then drizzled with a sweet Donair sauce that tastes like a mixture of sugar, cream, oil, and happiness. It's the perfect sandwich, brought to you by the first shop to bring Donairs to Canada! This sandwich can be eaten drunk after the bar, or for dinner after a long day of walking the Halifax beaches. Overall, 5/5, would eat here again. Oh wait, I had. I stopped by here twice during my 3 day visit in Halifax. Mmm mmm. Love Donairs! IG: @albert.eatstein

My first Donair, the iconic Halifax indulgence. I prepared myself for disappointment as this sounded like a food choice for inebriated university students.. In fact, I have been told that by inebriated university students. And I was sober as a judge on the day question. Also, my experience with the Donair outside of Halifax was not great. Fakers. But when in Rome, right? Result: I am now a believer!! This thing kicked ass in every way, as far as flavor, texture, and balance. The sweet garlic sauce, which I doubted most of all, brought it all together. Of course, it was way more food than I should’ve eaten, but I was incapable of stopping once I started. (Once you are covered in sauce what is the point in stopping?) The super-dive vibe added to the whole experience too. So I will be back again someday, next time in Halifax. Thanks, King, for a memorable 4 minutes!
