Am a regular here for breakfast, and occasionally for lunch. Love the huge, circular size of this place, surrounded by glass windows so always bright (at sunrise you may have to adjust the direction you're facing), being able to look down at the big intersection or the Commons. Comfy chairs and booths. Very friendly, chatty staff. First tried here for Burger Week one weekday at lunch and although I forget the specific burger, it was tasty, juicy and filling enough on its own. My friend and I love eating weekday breakfast out, so have been back four or five times. He loves the buffet, which has all the normal hot & cold standards. The maple sausage smells to die for. I prefer more indiviual dishes so tried their breakfast quesadilla, which was really good and filling, served with side of salsa & sour cream. Another visit the Eggs Benny, not original but tasty and satisfying. The breakfast hash has a lot of big moist potatochunks, mushrooms, onion, corned beef that seems canned bc soft, topped with egg done to your preference... overall tasty and filling as well. Their nachos are not bad, lots of toppings and cheese, whereas I find most places you end up with a lot of chips at the bottom with no toppings left. These even have shredded lettuce, which I love. The place is never too busy around 8am (our most recent visit seemed to have about 39 people out of a capacity that seems close to 100). We've had luck getting parking on Pepperell St out back each visit. Also option of their underground lot of the hotel and have that validated if the weather was bad, etc. For lunch, parking may be a bit more of a challenge but we were successful to get a spot as well on Pepperell a couple of times.
Mar 2023: new menus available. The Heart Healthy breakfast ($18) excited me to try - egg whites, toast, avocado, fruit, turkey bacon, plain yogurt. Still very filling. Noticed there are $4 happy hour drinks from 4-6 daily, which is insanely cheap these days, so may even have to check that...
Read moreI came here this evening, March 30, 2025 and I had a wonderful experience. I was attending a conference at Dalhousie and I am from BC. I had a lovely experience here!
The food, service, and atmosphere are top notch. Eat person I interacted with was super lovely, friendly, and welcoming :)
I ordered the 10oz steak with a side salad and mash. The portion size was great! Sometimes you go to a steakhouse and the food is scant but the price is large. Here, I felt like it was appropriately priced and generously portioned! So it actually is a great bang for your buck.
The service was really great. Each host, server, etc. were so friendly. They seemed like warm and genuine people. Lots of good vibes!
Halifax is very cold (imo ~ it is spring in BC! lol!) this time of year and it was great to be in such a warm environment. I sat by the window and I was able to overlook the streets. And actually, when I arrived at the restaurant the host intentionally put me there without me even having to ask! The space is warmly lit and bright enough for a late evening meal.
I am not sure when or if I will come back to Halifax, but if I do I will surely come again! :) I would love to try their risotto and salads! Honestly, the entire menu looks great! They even have vegetarian and vegan options! One of my colleagues said the vegan options were...
Read moreOur family of three recently visited Cannery Restaurant for dinner, and while the experience had its highlights, it was a bit of a mixed bag. The ambiance was undeniably beautiful, offering a pleasant and inviting setting for our meal. We started with high hopes, but the service left something to be desired. The servers were just too busy. Unfortunately, our food took over 40 minutes to arrive, and the explanation given was that there were too many orders at once, which dampened the experience. As for the food, it was a bit of a rollercoaster. The fish tacos were the standout—absolutely amazing, with crisp and fresh fries on the side. These are the best fries we ever had. The butter chicken was good, flavorful, and comforting. However, the butter tofu was disappointing; the tofu was far too hard and didn't have the texture or taste we were expecting. The chef needs to take care of this. The quantity of each dish was also reasonable. While the food had its highlights, the long wait and quality of butter tofu made the experience a bit less enjoyable than we had hoped. Our server Bruce was very polite and compensated us in the end for the long wait :) Thank you Bruce.
Sorry, didn’t take any pictures as we were extremely hungry by the time...
