I'd give here a 3.5 overall based on my first three visits. It's a cute cafe/diner with lots of natural light coming in, seating for maybe 30? Long and narrow in layout with the kitchen semi-visible, a couple of cozy tables in the back which are in their own little nooks. Decent bathrooms, which at least one has an entire wall of Campbell Soup wallpaper. Outside are a few free parking spaces in the lane between Cheeky and the Atlantica Hotel, the same spaces that were there for the previous Relish Burger & Blockbuster in this location. Friendly staff. Breakfast on an overcast winter Saturday at 9am was perfect for me, as I was the only customer that early. The Breakfast Skillet (12.49 house hash, cheese, tomato, onion, kale, sunny side eggs, chives, hollandaise, chipotle aioli with bacon added for 2.49) was giant. I honestly could get three full meals out of this, so after forcing about half of it down, I could barely walk to the car. Delicious. For lunch one day with a friend, we tried the Greasy Spoon burger (8.49 local beef, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion, cheeky sauce) and the Modern Diner burger (9.99 local beef, old white cheddar, Brothers bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion Cheeky sauce). Both we enjoyed on their sesame seed buns, juicy, tasted exactly as described, not too big, not too small. The shoestring fries are quite salty, but good. The side of red cabbage cole slaw is ok. Another lunch with the same friend, I had the Lime Chicken & Guacamole Club (8.99 chili lime marinated chicken breast, Brothers bacon, guac, jalapeno lime aioli, tomato, lettuce) which tasted exactly like that, and was very filling. For lunch I didn't need to add fries for 3.49, but did. The friend's 1pc Fish & Chips (10.49 Garrison beer battered haddock) was quite standard he said. To me, the piece looked a bit small, but his main comment was that it didn't taste as fresh as he's used to, not that it was terrible. Fries upgraded to poutine was decent. 4th visit: another Saturday morning by myself, early enough to be the second table I think. The veggie benji (benny) hit the spot where I was full, but not dying like after the skillet. (sourdough roll, avocado, tomato, poached eggs, hollandise, cilantro) tasted exactly like that, with the same yummy hash. I look forward to trying the breakfast burrito next. 5th visit: The weekend of Mar 7 had a special that I had seen the day before on their Instagram - pancakes done up to look like the Simpson's donut! So pretty and fun! And it actually tasted good, where I could taste condensed milk in the icing so it was sweet, but not too sweet. Felt a bit like hell afterwards, but that's to be expected when you are basically having what is the same as an entire cake as a meal. LOL Staff are always friendly. This was the first time that I had arrived after 10am on a Saturday and I got the last table available without a wait. There was a line up people after me almost immediately though.
Dec 2022: the After Eight French toast special was delicious...almost like eating deep...
Read moreDecided to try someplace new today for breakfast as this one came highly recommended. Even braved the long wait pinched in the front entry vestibule with dominos next door as there was a nearby parade.
The male server sat us down but negated to give us menus until 7 minutes later then gave them to the family who came after us and finally got to our table and realized he forgot our menus. The service today I expected to be longer but I did not expect to feel invisible. We started out with a single 5oz cup of coffee. Had touch tones of caramel or something which wasn’t my thing as I enjoy a nice house blend. Also had a bad aftertaste. Our male waiter passed by us frequently as we stared at him with our empty cups and waters. Even though he kept looking at what was on our table and the others hurried around by us with their tables coffee and water we didn’t get serviced. Then in a turn of events a female waitress served a meal to the table that came in 15 minutes after us. Even they got upset for us wondering why in the heck we didn’t get our meal. The female waitress with the glasses kindly got us our meal and coffee as the male waiter didn’t seem to be servicing us at that point. I had ordered the skillet. In addition I had ordered sausage which I had to ask the nice female waitress back for as it was missing. She Served us two patties pretty quickly and I tore them up to go with my meal (the patties were just ok but I wouldn’t recommend them on the skillet). The skillet was just ok. I think it was the small home fries and kale with the lack of cheese that kinda made the meal bland. Meal size was decent. My wife had ordered the smoked salmon on potato waffle which she thoroughly enjoyed. The male waiter never checked in on us once until the bill arrived. Not gonna lie was a little dissatisfied with the service yet this place had great reviews. If your not into flavoured coffee you may want to skip this one as it had a bad aftertaste (for those who drink it black). Cat Decore was interesting and they had some neat...
Read moreUpdated View: Had a much better customer service this time around and the Cinnamon Bun French Toast was VERY GOOD! I had another great time, the server had a great attitude with every customer and said "Sweeeet" at least once per customer, haha. Looking forward to popping by possibly for the Big Poutine Fest! Changed from 4 stars to 5 stars!
My first experience at the Cheeky Neighbour was a funny one!
First of all I would like to acknowledge that the Carrot Cake French Toast special I had was absolutely delicious one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten in my life. The Atmosphere is very nice too, very bright and spaced out.
The service was pretty average maybe below average, I think the customer service aspect could have been a little better.
Now to the funny part, so I paid for my meal and went to the "Exit Sign" figuring maybe with social distancing they have separate doors. I went in and went out the first door I saw and it was a garbage disposal area covered with fence, I panicked and thought I was locked in the back room in the diner, I knocked on the door I initially went through a few times no one answered. I went up the stairs and looked at the first door and it was a door to a roof. I really began to worry I knocked louder and yelled still no answer. 10 minutes went by I went upstairs again and tried the hallway and boom it was a floor with apartment rooms and I kept walking and there was an "exit" LOL I was so scared and embarrassed thinking that I was going to be locked in there all day, ruined my experience initially but I felt better later on.
I'll still be back in the future! Had a great...
