Was recently in Halifax for the day, and had a strong craving for some Banh Mi (which we don't really have in Moncton-area).
We were pleasantly surprised to find Banh Mi A&B on Google Maps, and based on both various reviews and photos from others, confirmed this was the go-to place for us!
Parking along Quinpool Rd was fairly easy enough, and fortunate for us -- was able to find parking literally upfront of the restaurant!
Wife & I went in, and was pleased to find the cute sit-in area, and the order counter.
Owner was very nice, and pleasant and after some info regarding menu items, we ordered several items to try out.
Banh Mi - Viet Sandwiches: Lemongrass Pork x1 Cold-cuts with pate x1
Appetizer: Fresh Spring Rolls x1
Drinks: Viet Iced Coffee x2
The sandwiches are freshly made, and were of good portions and we enjoyed both of them. The sandwiches included choices of salads, and we chose potato salad and slaw. Overall the consensus was the cold-cuts w/ pate edged out as winner of our fave Banh Mi!
The Fresh Spring Rolls were served as 2x rolls cut in halves, so 4 pieces with Peanut dipping sauce. The ingredients were fresh, the rolls were tasty and went well with the sandwiches.
For drinks, we both enjoyed the Viet Iced Coffee. Perfectly balanced with just enough coffee, condensed milk and ice mix. If you have never tried Vietnamese coffee, this is highly recommended!
True fact -- The coffee used originated from the Alambe Coffee (from Vietnam) -- I actually picked up some of their roasted beans before we left :)
Happy to report that this will be our go-to Viet food place whenever we make our way back to Halifax in the near future.
We highly recommend this wonderful little place to anyone who wants to try some good viet fare, served up by some great folks at...
Read moreBeen here a few times and I have to say the food is pretty great! Easily the best place the get banh mi here in the city, in my opinion. I just wish the portion was slightly bigger for the price you pay. I’d recommend giving their grilled chicken banh mi a try!
Their pho is not bad as well. The broth is delicious, and you can tell a lot of care was put in place when they were making it. Their noodles were nice and firm. It has a nice chew to it; just the perfect bite! My only complaint for the pho is the lack of meats on the dish. The brisket they use is rather chewy, but it does get the job done.
For me, the most surprising thing here is them serving the best Vietnamese iced coffee in the city. I’ve looked for an authentic iced coffee here and every place I’ve tried was quite a sham. This one blew my mind! The perfect blend of bitterness and sweet. I always go back just for this. Though their serving mostly contains ice. You only get a handful of sips before you realize you’re nearly done! But do...
Read moreStopped in here for lunch in hopes to get that homemade Vietnamese meal feeling and Banh mi a&b delivered! Had the chicken banh mi and the bread was delicious with a hint of sweetness, a different and unique recipe for sure. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside as it should!! Come to hear the story of the head chef bringing the recipe from Vietnam to share with Canadians; and you can also order just the bread itself!!
With a side of viet slaw (highly recommend!!) That gave the authentic viet taste! The bun cha was perfect for a cold day, the broth with the fish sauce paired perfectly with the rice noodles and vegetables.
The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, the service was warm and welcoming.
If you're a viet living in hrm and want an authentic home taste, I highly recommend coming here! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu, including their...
