This restaurant is INCREDIBLE. I've never had Filipino cuisine before, and this food is genuinely some of the best food I've ever had. I ordered "Soup combo 1" which includes congee, tokwat baboy, buchi and a drink. The soup (congee) is a beef broth base with rice and chives. It is hot (temperature), incredibly flavourful and so comforting. The tokwat baboy is a dish with crispy pork and tofu in a soy/sesame sauce with onions and chives. When I say crispy I mean TO PERFECTION. It had a beautiful crust on it with a juicy, flavourful interior. The buchi is a rice ball of sorts with a bean paste inside and a sesame seed crust. It leaned towards a sweet and was a lovely thing to enjoy my coffee! My coffee was also excellent. They brought me a tall cup brimming with a rich blend. The food came fast, fresh, and steaming. The atmosphere and service have a very down-to-earth, local family restaurant feel.
Overall this hole-in-the-wall place in Fairview, Halifax...
Read moreMe and my partner went in for breakfast one morning, she had eggs Benny, I had a veggie omelette with frozen cube home fries (not home made), I was going to get the regular breakfast with tomato pieces instead of bacon, they would not allow this, suggesting the omelette. The server was nice, but the service was lacking.
The omelette was okay, 2 eggs were used, the toast was white wonder bread.
The two simple meals with coffee ended up being $40+6 tip. You can't expect to have returning customers when you charge so much for poor food/service. IKEA has a very similar breakfast for $3.49 with the exact same home fries. I had higher hopes for this place. We probably won't be back.
I'll bet the Philippino food is great, never had it...
Read moreHappy Plate serves a number of dishes with a focus in breakfast, lunch or brunch with filipino dishes. I have attached pictures of its menu.
I would recommend their lomi in the filipino dishes section. Lomi is basically a filipino version of ramen. it is filled with egg, fried pork belly and fried siomai. It is served with chicharap(prawn crakers) or chicharon(pork grinds). It is a big serving for $15.99 so make sure you have the room. I have attached a photo of the meal below.
Make sure you add pepper and soy sauce in your lomi to get that full Filipino...
