Electric Diner 💖 — Restaurant in Hamilton

Been here twice, terrible time both times…. (Also the one on Hess was way better managed) We got the “Nacho man” app, drinks and burgers. That first visit food was incredible, services absolutely sucked. We came in, had a reservation, hostess didn’t even ask about our reservations, and we waited at the hostess stand for 20mins (at this time there was no bell there to let them know we were there). We got sat in what I like the call “the dead zone” right away we asked to sit some where else, they said no because all the other tables are reserved and we laughed and said one of them is probably our reservation HAHA. Later on we find out that, that was a lie because the whole place was dead. Anyways sat down, waited about 20mins, server came over, we order our drinks, didn’t see her for an hour! Started to think, she forgot about us. She came back saying she’s slammed and has a lot going on, ok what ever. Ordered the app and our mains, we were told the app would come out first, ok no problem. 30 mins has gone, no app, but she came back to ask if we wanted more drinks. Another 30min goes by we got all of our food at the same time, and guess what, no drinks that we just ordered. What ever, at least we got our food, it came at the same time but that’s ok, didn’t see her for an hour!! I wanted more napkins because the food was messy, during that hour I kept waiting and I finally got up to use the bathroom to wash my hands, looked around and guess what!? There is only 2 of the same tables that we can see from our seats this whole time, there’s 3 people on the floor working and we havnt seen anyone. After going to the bathroom, to wash my hands, we finally got our drinks before she left, I asked for another round and our bill because we had no idea when we would see her again, and at this point I have no compassion for the service anymore. We got our drinks, surprisingly in 15 mins, but didn’t get our bill. Didn’t see her for 2 hours after that! We where about to walk out before I went up to the bar and asked again for our bill, found our server and she said she forgot (no shit). Yesterdays experience was a bit better. We made the reservation a month in advance, for 5:30pm, for 7 people (6 adults and one infant). I called and hour and a half before our reservation to ask for a high chair for our infant. Parking was $26. Anyways get inside, hostess actually asked if we had a reservation this time. Our reservation is in the exact same spot we were at last time! I right away asked, “can we please have another table, we don’t mind waiting, we didnt have a good time in this area last time”, girl tells me “no, sorry, all our other tables have reservations on them”. Nope another lie, saw 4 spots with no one at them, the whole time. Anyways, two chairs were totally broken, the one the seat was completely unscrewed from the chair. And no high chair. Anyways asked about if we can have the old nachos that we ordered when we were last there, the server, came back told us no, what ever fine. Drinks were a bit late, but that she said they were changing the keg, what ever that’s fine. Ordered, some apps, and food, 3 of our burgers we were all missing the honey hot sauce which is why we ordered it, we couldn’t complain because no one came around. We noticed our server was on the complete opposite end of the restaurant serving other tables. Our whole table could see she was struggling and we didn’t understand why no one else was helping her out. Out of 6 adults only two people liked there food everyone else hated what they ordered (mostly burgers). Near the end we didn’t see our server much, but we weren’t surprised no one wanted to help her and from our last experience we thought that’s normal. When we finally got our bills after waiting an hour, the machines weren’t working, a manager (I guess) came to help her and said “I don’t know what her problem is, they work fine” no matter what please don’t talk badly about your staff to guest, it’s not fair to them! Let me start by saying the restaurant is a lovely place! The ambiance is really nice and I love the design!

I went with my friends and we ordered two appetizers, two drinks and three meals total.

I had the fruit loops milkshake, which was delicious. I have nothing bad to say about it. One improvment night be to chill the glass to make the drink extra cold and fresh tasting!

My friend had a drink sold by another company and it was good she said, but not really relevant to this review because it's not specific to the diner.

The appetizers we ordered were the cauliflower coquettes and the "frites" which I'm not sure why they were called frites when everything else was in English.

So the coquettes were really good with the awesome sauce. The texture was soft and the flavor of the coquette was okay on its own, but the sauce made it better. The awesome sauce had a mayo-dill flavor. My friend is vegan and did not have the awesome sauce and it didn't taste very good plain and she didn't love the texture. A vegan sauce alternative would be good!

The fries were shoestring fries, pretty good! The ketchup was Chipotle ketchup and it was a nice mild spice for a non spicy person.

My friend was able to order a vegan burger and the patty was similar to the coquettes but she said a little better. She liked the salad as well.

My other friend said her meal was fine. She had a boy George sandwich. She said there were a lot of conflicting flavors and it was not warm like she anticipated. She had fries that were good.

I had the fried chicken burger. It was totally flavorless. When I had some of the bun I tasted mostly mayo. When I tried the chicken I only tasted oil. Like no flavor at all.

I had the mac and cheese on the side. Mac and cheese is my favorite meal in the whole world and there was real cheese which I appreciate. However it fell victim to the classic "no flavor" problem. The sauce and cheese was lacking so they overcompensate with salt to bring flavor.

So overall I like the diner for the atmosphere but I'm hoping they can improve the...

TLDR: POOR SERVICE, FOOD WAS WORSE, I DO NOT RECOMMEND

After hearing and seeing good reviews of this place, my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try.

Arriving on Saturday at 1pm, 3/4 of the tables were open. We waited 5 mins for a table. But thought the decor was cool.

Upon being seated, our server took 10 mins to get to us and took our order promptly, she then proceeded to chat with the table behind us for the next 10mins, before putting our order through.

We ordered a cinnamon toast milkshake, the Reggie Hammond burger (with poutine upgrade), and a grilled cheese Benny.

Cinnamon toast milkshake: good flavour, very little quantity, mostly whip cream, for a $11 shake.

Reggie Hammond: extremely greasy and the buns were wet from the grease. There was a pool of oil on my plate following the burger. Flavourless patty, the only thing I could taste were the acidic components. No Indication of bacon jam.The poutine upgrade was the best part of the meal, the gravy rode the line of being too salty. And their frites were well cooked. For a $4 upgrade, we expected more cheese curds.

Grilled Cheese Benny: awful. The eggs were overcooked and felt like hard-boiled eggs. The hollandaise was nice but provided little to flavour the meal. The grilled cheese was pathetic, it contained half a slice of plastic cheese between 2 dinner rolls, and were not grilled. The potatoes were not flavoured, it felt as if they were boiled. Very disappointing.

Our server did not ask how our meal was and was avoidant the entire experience. The server who gave us our bill was much friendlier than the first.
