I hate giving harsh reviews but from the moment we walked in we regretted going in. I've been here, years ago I thought it was ok for a quick lunch. We arrived just around 2:30. It wasn't busy at all maybe 4-6 tables. We didn't even have a the menus and were asked what we wanted to drink , we asked for a few minutes and she was back in less than a minute again. Not sure what the rush was, I asked for a Muskoka beer, she said they don't have that brand anymore and it wasn't taken off the menu. I went safe with the mill st organic , nope they don't have that either. They feature that brand so I was shocked. To be safe and not wanting an issue I opted for the draft handle I saw Guinness. The food was terrible, I'm sorry to say but I think mostly everything was microwaved. The beef dip bread even started to harden as I was eating it, the fries were okay. The schnitzel was so dry most of it was left on the plate and my wife's fish tacos were ok but the salad had a strange dressing ,it was a thick creamy sour vinaigrette which she wasn't even advised what came with it and the server never asked what she wanted. It had huge onions on it as well so that wasn't eaten. She came around and got 2/3 dishes and asked are you still working on that, we said no, The waitress could care less, she didn't even ask why the food was left. She left one plate and didn't return until about 10 minutes later. We asked for the bill and it took another long wait. To be fair at this point it started filling up. Overall our server at no point even greeted us was courteous or friendly. She never said her name , we looked on the bill and it said Day Bar. I'm actually surprised at all the good reviews, but I guess if your coming for the sports bar vibe , having a beer with friends and watching a game having deep fried foods it may be to your liking. It's a nice...
Read moreSo, this pub style restaurant has several things going for it (but a LOT MORE going against!
On the plus side, the waitresses are pleasant and helpful, and ....... I can't think of too many other pluses.
My wife and I went there for an early dinner on a warm, sunny afternoon. The patio, which is in the middle of a parking lot, had nice hanging baskets around its perimeter.
Seating was at very run-of-the-mill black metal patio tables and chairs (of the type you can buy at Home Depot for maybe $150 or so a set.
The patio umbrellas (there were lots of them), together with the very pretty and plentiful hanging baskets) did a reasonable job of trying to help you forget about the parking lot.
On the food side, I must say my wife and I were tremendously disappointed.
My wife had a Caesar Salad with dressing that was almost tasteless. I say almost, because there WAS the tiniest hint of some mayo (must have been an accident).
I had a hamburger whose taste would have made a Big Mac taste like gourmet food from Paris.
My wife had a Caesar Salad - with a dressing that I think even Caesar's slaves would have sent back - and we did! To the waitress' credit, she took that item off the bill.
And the iced tea that my wife ordered must have been made with a teabag that was reused several times!
All in all, a real disappointment!
Would I come back? What...
Read moreJust a little update on my previous post! An absolutely brilliant time was had by all at The American yesterday for the St Patrick’s Day celebration! As we say in Belfast, the craic was 90! I hadn’t been in the pub for a while and what an incredibly warm welcome we had! A friend of ours from Guelph joined and she just loved the pub and the atmosphere! She couldn’t believe how friendly everyone was, customers included of course! The staff, (Alyssa, CJ, Bjorn, to name a few) and Melanie, (one of the owners), out-did themselves as always! Great service, music, food and incredible warmth. If you haven’t been to this restaurant/ pub, you are missing out big time. We are so lucky to have such a great local! Oh, and the prices for the quality of the food and drinks beats all, during these crazy times, in which we all now live! ☘️
The American is the one restaurant/ pub in Waterdown that has managed to keep the quality of their food up there, whilst not raising the prices too much, unlike many other places! In my opinion, it’s the best pub in Waterdown for the quality of their grub, prices, service and staff! I must give a shout out to all of the staff, (as they are all lovely), but Alyssa and C.L, (who mostly serve us) always give us the best service and the best craic too! Kudos to everyone involved in running this...
