Smalls Coffee — Restaurant in Hamilton

I love Smalls! They're an adorable little coffee shop off cannon that has earned my respect and continued patronage. The owners and baristas are super nice and very helpful in helping you pick something off the menu. Their coffee is in my top three cafes in Hamilton easily.

Normally there is a window bench to enjoy a coffee in the space but it has been removed due to covid. Instead they have brought in additional plants to Helly fill the space despite them only doing take out at the moment. The location just off of cannon and James north means that you can grab coffee and walk around the shops downtown.

Prices are about average compared to other local cafes but the coffee is definitely my favourite. They also sell coffee beans, travel mugs and other coffee paraphernalia so definitely check out Smalls.

Great tasting coffee! This ‘small’ shop really does justice to its name, as the venue is just that. They keep it simple at Smalls, espresso based coffee drinks of all kinds, and with plenty of alternative products to substitute dairy. They serve a selection of pastries that go well with the drinks they serve, on top of all kinds of coffee accessories and devises and a selection of coffee beans.

The espresso is quite tasty and balanced, it is not overwhelming nor it has a lingering aftertaste, which makes it easy to drink and quite enjoyable. The service was great! The ladies behind the counter were attentive and made the drinks quickly even with a bit of a lineup. I have the feeling this place gets a line out the door at times, due to its size. For years, Smalls has been my go-to spot in the city for good coffee and good beans. For years I've respected this business, both in terms of the products they carry and how they choose to exist in the world. Jess & Ian and great examples of the kind of business owners that Hamilton needs - locally-focused, sustainably built and present with their downtown neighbours. I have worked alongside them in a business capacity for over a year and they have continued to cement themselves as the kind of folks I want to allign myself with. Their products are consistent and still interesting, and they also offer coffee services for meetings & events.
