The Burnt Tongue Should be called The Burnt Burgers because that's what I got! Let me explain...
I came into The Burnt Tongue with high expectations, after reading the reviews. The staff was friendly, restaurant was clean. What the restaurant was lacking is quality and food portions. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with the Tuscan Sausage Potato kale soup, with a burger on the side.
To start the soup was delicious the hint of kale mixed with the sausage had a great after taste. The potatos had the right amount! Sometimes they can ruin a dish, but not here. My problem was when I picked up the order, the bag was lefted wide open on the table food ended up being cold. I was able to drink my soup....
The grill chesse was decent, nothing to complain about. It was satisfying pulling the Sandwiches apart, and watching the cheese stretch good way to determine if that chesse game is on point! But was cold on arrival.
Lastly, I always order hamburgers from restaurants, it says alot about the craftsmanship in the restaurant, and the quality of their food since a burger so easy to make. My burger was so burnt, lacking favour and taste! When you read these reviews, then walk out paying $9.00 for a burger plus extra for toppings! You expect 100% real beef with juice dripping down those buns! They did not reach that. The product I received was an thin patty, that was cooked on a charcoal BBQ lefted over night and heated up again and thrown on a bun.
Overall, quality at burnt tongue is slighty average, with potential to grow! With the right adjustments like customer care for pick up orders, keeping orders hot, and improving the...
Read moreYesterday my wife & I celebrated 4 years married and went for an exhausting two hour hike in the picturesque Dundas Valley. When we finally got back to the car she suggested we go to one of our favorite spots in Westdale for a slice of absolute heaven to celebrate our anniversary. (aka chocolate cheesecake!) It wasn’t until we parked the car that we stumbled on another one of our all-time beloved Hamilton restaurants “The Burnt Tongue” that had recently opened it’s third location in the village right across the street. Let me tell you, what a pleasant surprise!
If you’re a first-time customer of TBT, then I’d recommend start by visiting them on social media @theburnttongue on IG because they post their daily soup menu’s every day for each location. At first you might find it a bit confusing, but once you understand it you’ll find it’s presented in a way that is very straight forward. That being said if you’re having trouble you can always visit their website for a legend.
The Westdale location has a nice little buddy bar in the window to eat at if you’re trying to salvage your car upholstery, but I will say the lack of seating is the only drawback to this location. It’s definitely a grab & go set-up that I think lends itself well to the community it serves. In my opinion the owners have done an excellent job taking this concept to the next level. Food is excellent as always, staff is great, these guys have the recipe for success! Lastly I can’t recommend any one soup, I’ve tried so many & they all have been absolutely incredible. On this particular visit we did the Carrot, cauliflower & coconut. A++ Highly...
Read moreTo prefix, I want to say that the staff at The Burnt Tongue have ALWAYS been great to deal with and accommodating.
However, if you are a vegan, dairy free or have any dietary restrictions: AVOID THIS RESTAURANT 🚫
Their system for indicating vegan items is inherently busted. Items are marked with a “VVC” which translates to being vegan and celiac friendly on their little ordering guide.
With that said, they have a little asterisk (*) that says to check about daily specials on a dish.. or something along those lines. The signage is confusing as the asterisk doesn’t say “may change what dietary restrictions are accommodated by this dish.”
In my scenario, I ordered a soup marked as “VVC”… but there was cheese in the toppings. Whoever thought that putting dairy in a dish SPECIFICALLY NOTED as being vegan shouldn’t be allowed to add items to the menu.
Again, the staff were fantastic at getting me a refund and courteous when on the phone.
This doesn’t excuse the fact that The Burnt Tongue is negligently and FALSELY advertising dishes as being vegan/dairy free when they are, in fact, not. I should not have to ask if a vegan option is actually vegan.. this is dangerous to people who have severe food allergies and grossly incompetent.
I will not be returning until they can make the appropriate changes to the listing process for their menu items. I and advising friends and family to go elsewhere until that change...
