The Portuguese Grill House — Restaurant in Hamilton

I have been to The Portuguese Grill House 3 times so far since they have opened.

The first time the food was fantastic, except the one dessert I had tasted stale or not Fresh!

Second time, I went I had the Caldo Verde Soup and it tasted as if they poured a jar of salt into the pot, plus the sausage was rubbery in texture and tasted kind of gross!

I also asked for the 1/2 chicken with fries and potatoes. I asked them to separate them or use separate containers for the Fries. So the Fries don't become wet and all that. Plus I didn't want the hot sauce on the fries either. I just wanted plain fries!

Got home and they didn't do what I asked them to do!

This time. My half chicken dinner is fabulous but I ordered the pasta salad and it tastes off and rancid. Not sure if its a Mayonnaise they use, that is past the expiry date. Noticed Eggs in it, not sure if maybe the eggs are old? I have had it from them before but not like this!

When I went there today to order my food for supper I made the special notion to order a small container of the Pasta Salad, because I loved it before. This time, not so much!

Out of all 3 times ordering food. I have to say the Chicken dinner, Rice and Potatoes has never let me down. It is fresh and great tasting!

Considering this restaurant is I don't know half yr old? They said at first that they where new and just working out all the kinks and stuff.

Well, don't you think by now they should have it down packed and all ironed out. Plus being a restaurant shouldn't they know how to cook properly. Not serve old food that may make people sick?

Plus I saw one time when being there ordering my food. A customer placed a special custom order ahead of time and it wasn't even ready. So they told the customer it would be in 10mins.

So that customer stepped out for a bit. Saw the cook come to the front with a new tray of fresh rice and then replace the old tray. Then I saw him add some of the old rice into the new rice tray.

Thought to myself hmm, is this old tray for the custom order? The cook gave me a grin. I was like hmm a grin as in is he secretly hiding something. Made me think again?

If this actually happened. Wouldn't you want your food prepared and made fresh for a gathering?

Also the few times I have been there the one lady owner wasn't that friendly, but rather moody instead. The Ladies who work there are so friendly and nice!

Been there this time. They had chicken just lying on the grill not even being cooked. Is this a health concern? Where flies and bugs could reach it?

Saw a pot on the stove and saw a lady taste it and it kind of looked like she didn't like it, and this could have been one of the Cooks!

Wondering where did these owners learn how to cook at times and if they have their food handlers certificate? Cause you can't serve old bad food to customers. And have chicken not being cooked out so bugs can reach it!

Been there before when they were extremely busy. Had quite a few people eating in, the male owner was serving them. He also greeted me as I entered. And finished. Extremely friendly and a very nice gentleman.

On the other hand. Not sure if it was the lady owner running the show behind the counter. She seemed a little friendly but moody.

I ordered a dish and they added some sauce on top of it. And I said I didn't want it. They did this maybe 2-3 times. Plus messed up another ladies order twice!

My opinion, is that I think they need more help behind the counter. So peoples orders don't get messed up. And English speaking/understanding...

My husband and I went to this restaurant to try it out, the owner and I believe to be his wife were very lovely. My husband had the steak sandwich with olives and I tried the passionfruit mousse. We were very happy with the food and the company of the owner talking about places in Portugal. The only thing disturbing to both my husband and I was a lady wearing a God awful tight dress that was not at all appropriate in a eatery such as this, she was making alot of noise and was disruptive while us speaking to the owner. Then this lady walked past us and she Said hello to my husband, so my husband asked "Do I know you?" And she just said long time ago. My complaint to her is......if you have something to say, please finish what you started or keep your mouth shut. Completely rude!!!! This waitress or whatever she is, ruined any chance of us coming back. My husband was disgusted with her being disrespectful especially when kindly asking her a simple question that she avoided. But people regardless of that thing, the restaurant, food and owners care about their customers. Sorry for my remark but don't let your mouth write a cheque your butt...

It was my first time here, and I placed my order via phone. I waited less than 10 minutes and the service from the gentleman in the meantime was so friendly! He checked in with me multiple times despite how they were busy with a large order plus people dining in. Some of the negative reviews were about the lack of English spoken, which is very disheartening because I had zero issues with communication; their English was completely fine lol and I am not even Portuguese.

All the food I had was fresh and absolutely delicious! The portions are HUGE and a tremendous value for the cost especially these days. The chicken was juicy and flavourful, and the sides of rice and potatoes included in my meal were a meal in itself! Honestly, the best potatoes and cod cakes I have ever had!

I ate half the meal with no room for dessert because I am so full, but have no doubts that the natas and passion fruit pudding are just as delicious.

The owner was not wrong when he said it will not be my last time coming back!
