Just happened- came in for a quick bite. Hostess was amazing, just chatted for a sec. Was seated, ordered and served in under 5 minutes . Just had a side order of brown toast. Another server brought the toast and it was delicious.
Waited twenty mintues no server got up to pay the bill. Then this happened... manager walks over and tells me he is 'doing me a favour' by charging me for the toast instead of peanut butter and jelly sandwich, whcih he claims I ordered. I did not and stated so... I explained I swapped out a jam for an extra pb. The 'manager' speaks to the server who confirms in their language that I did indeed order toast and not a sandwich. I plop my money downs stating I want to pay and leave.
The manager then insists I was wrong but he will do me another favor but comping my $2.60 toast. I refused and stated I wanted my change back to which he refuses and attempts to physcially assault me by trying to stuff my $5 bill into my left shorts pocket. This was witnessed by other patrons and staff.
Then when I leave with the money on the closest table the 'manager' chases and follows me out of the restaurant mall entrance and further into the mall. All because he tried to nickel and dime me for a menu item I did not ask for nor order.
Toby's you have a 'manager' who attempted to assault me and chased me because I wanted to pay my bill. This is unacceptable. I will obviously never be back but this man tried to physically assault me.
So yeah avoid this place at all costs.
EDIT: Read your response. First my name is Burt. I was not reading a book and the server never checked in on me. I know. I was there. The second server brought the toast and came back with the peanut butter. That was it.
So you admit that you 'upcharge' on menu items. If I order a coleslaw you will call it a salad instead? So if I asked a menu item which I have ordered before then you suddenly tell me what I ordered doesn't exist anyone would be confused.
I never knew this was the 'server's first day'. Funny since i have actually ordered side toast and never was told about it being a pb and j. Also the second server has served me before.
90% of what you wrote never happened and you never adressed your manager trying to lay hands on me multiple times. I know you watched the CCTV but you glossed over the part where they attemtped to assault me and touch my lower torso and groin area with the manager trying to put his hands inside my left shorts pocket.
Seriously 90% of what you wrote never actually happened and what did happen you never addressed. Thank you for clarifying. Still avoid will...

At first glance Toby's is utterly forgettable. Most people, even locals will walk by it without noticing it. This is a mistake.
In the better part of 5 years I have been a patron I have never had a bad meal. Even dishes that I've expected to be disappointed by have surprised me (the fish and chips are what you'd expect from someplace like Hutches) The food reminds me more of my mothers home cooking then high dining, it's not junk food or pretending to be a piece of art... It's good food, you eat it. (Although the chef does tend to get fancy with the cheesecake which does taste pretty close to store bought)
The prices are below what I'd expect for the quality and it took me a few years to stop checking the bill to see if they'd forgotten to charge me for my drink. Breakfast in particular is surprisingly cheap.
The service is exactly what you'd expect from people that have worked there for years, they treat their regulars like family and are always looking for new members. Several staff are fun just to listen to and while they aren't likely to play "the customer is always right" they will treat you with respect if you do the same.
Portion sizes are a bit over average but not enough to leave you with a pile of leftovers. I usually leave pleasantly full but rarely unable to walk. A plate of food is exactly that.
In short it's pretty much an old fashion diner with less grease and better food. The prices are great and the staff are great as long as you aren't a jerk.
Oh, if you luck out and the beef dip sandwich is on special you buy it... Trust me...
Read moreTotal rip off I ordered potato skins I got three small half potato and they were $16.99 !!! They said it’s because supplier for the skins are expensive!! Not saying they didn’t taste good but terrible value for the money! Even kids meals are expensive $11.99 for that Mac and cheese kids meal with no drink or anything only the main Edit reply yes you are right you offered one half skin. You also proceeded to compare to Kelsey’s which was confusing because they offered more and was cheaper. But understand I didn’t say they were bad tasting I said they were expensive for three halves of a potato pieces. 16.99 no matter how you look at it is outrageous. You did say it’s not the most value friendly on the menu maybe it would be a good heads up for future sales. Everyone is struggling not just you so if you know it’s not worth it and a rip off to customers why not change it. I can guarantee you those potatoe skins you purchase do not cost you that much to the point of charging a customer $17 for 3 pieces your chicken sandwich meal is similar in price !! So I think there is a problem no matter how you look at. I appreciated you coming and speaking to us. But to resolve a situation you don’t compare to other restaurants especially when it still shows they are cheaper not sure what the point was. You were lovely staff was lovely nobody is disputing that. Prices are unrealistic for the...
