Disappointing Experience – Hoping the Owners Take This Seriously We were looking forward to trying this restaurant, especially being new with a unique menu. But unfortunately, our experience left us disappointed, and we walked away feeling like the issues run deeper than simple opening-month hiccups. The service was friendly enough, but not very attentive or clear. Our waitress often seemed flustered, and while she apologized frequently, not all of it was out of her control. One major issue was her failure to communicate our order correctly. My wife specifically asked for the chicken cutlet without the "ham sauce" (how it was referred to by the waitress and mentioned on the menu). However, when the dish arrived, it didn’t just skip the sauce—it came with a slice of ham on top. It made us wonder whether the menu was inaccurate and that there never was a “ham sauce” to begin with. When it came back from the kitchen, the cutlets were dry, with no sauce at all, and served with hashbrowns. Just dry and flavorless. My beef cutlet was equally disappointing. The meat was dry and tough, and the Filetto sauce was skimpy, was more like a simple tomato sauce, lacking both flavor and freshness. I had asked for mashed potatoes, but was told they were out, so I switched to fries. The fries were dry too. When I asked for ketchup, I was served a tiny dish of it—maybe a teaspoon—so I had to ask for more, which finally came, but it just added to the feeling that things weren’t properly thought through. We had also ordered the Argentinian cheese board as an appetizer. When the appy arrived we asked the waitress to name the cheeses being served and she was unable to. One was topped with oregano (she could not tell us what it actually was), another was blue cheese, and the third was called Havarti by the waitress, which confused us, since none of these seemed particularly Argentinian and the cheese we were referring to was clearly not Havarti. When we asked if the “add-on” bread listed on the menu was any better than what was served complementary upon our arrival, which was stale and bland, the waitress just shrugged and said, “Not really — just more expensive.” We ordered wine at the same time as our appetizer, but it didn’t arrive until we reminded our server — and even then, it still took another 10 minutes. By the time it arrived (brought by a different waitress who didn’t seem thrilled to be there), we were finished our appy's and heading into our mains. Other diners seemed to be experiencing similar issues. A table next to us had a long wait, asked for more bread, and received it in a takeout container — while still dining in. They also ended up canceling their wine after it showed up way too late. It was clear the restaurant was understaffed and overwhelmed — we could see only three servers, one bartender, and two cooks (likely the owners) trying to manage a very full dining room. Unfortunately, it showed across the board — poor communication, sloppy plating, long waits. What’s even more concerning is that we read reviews from weeks ago mentioning these very same issues: long delays, incorrect orders, dry food, staffing problems. And though the responses from the owners are polite, they all seem copied-and-pasted — just saying sorry and that improvements are coming. But based on our visit, we haven’t seen those improvements yet. We’re not writing this to be negative for the sake of it. We want this place to do well — it could have potential. But things like menu clarity, staff training, food preparation, and basic coordination need serious work. We won’t be returning any time soon, but we genuinely hope the owners use this feedback to look deeper than the usual apology comment — and actually make the changes that are so...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to trying Rebo’s, but unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing.
Wanting to enjoy an early dinner before heading to Music in the Park, we made a reservation online. Oddly, the only time available was 3:45 pm. I assumed the place must be amazing if it was fully booked later on.
However, when we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty except for one other table. The hostess asked if we had a reservation. When I confirmed we did, she glanced at her screen and said, “Oh, well, no problem, don’t worry—we’ll give you a table.” Huh? Worry about what? Do you have my reservation or not?
We were seated, but the hostess just stacked the menus on the table rather than placing them in front of us—a small detail, but it felt careless. Since we were there during happy hour, we asked for the happy hour menu ourselves, as it wasn’t offered.
Service throughout the meal was slow. Eventually, our drinks and food were ordered. My husband enjoyed his steak sandwich, but my spinach ravioli was disappointing—it wasn’t cooked enough, with dough that was still firm, and the flavors were bland overall.
Another off-putting detail: an older lady brought our food to the table, and her shirt and pants were visibly dirty and covered in debris. Meanwhile, the cook (who I believe might be the owner) was on his phone while cooking. Not exactly reassuring for hygiene—I sincerely hope he washed his hands.
The restaurant remained mostly empty, so I’m not sure why we couldn’t have booked a later reservation. Around 5 pm, staff began arriving for the dinner shift. Still, no one checked if we wanted another round of drinks, and we had to flag someone down to ask for our bill.
When we mentioned how long we’d been waiting, the server apologized, though it wasn’t her fault as she had just started her shift. When another staff member finally brought our bill, he casually said, “Oh sorry, I had to go get groceries,” but didn’t seem to care that we’d been left waiting so long.
All in all, Rebo’s left us underwhelmed. The service was poor even though the restaurant wasn’t busy, and the food was only average at best. Given the prices, we won’t...
Read moreWe have been wanting to try out Rebo's so we connected with a couple friends for a mid week lunch. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, comfortable seating and very open with high ceilings. We were seated quickly and our server was good, not rushing us and checked back a few times. The problem was the food... I always like to try pizza assuming it is hand-made and oven fired (a post on the Kam foodie site mentioned them getting a special oven in June?) and always nice to try an ethnic twist. I selected a "favorite" per the menu which had shaved roast beef, cheese and topped with lettuce and egg, a bit different but that's why we go out. My wife ordered a pizza also, with caramelized onions and cheese - recommended by the server. Well what we received was basically a 10-12" dry pita bread (like you buy in a bag at the supermarket and used for kids home pizzas...) with a skiff of sauce and weak toppings. My "shaved roast beef" topping was like a few hard pieces of beef jerky and no cheese to speak of but I guess the lettuce and egg topping was OK? My wife's pizza was skimpy, dry and tasteless. She ate perhaps one and a half pieces before tapping out. Our friend ordered a ravioli dish and it was grainy and tasteless. Her husband had the salmon which he said was good, but a very small portion and no trimmings to speak of. We should have shared our disappointment with the server (although seeing much of the food not eaten may have prompted her to ask?) but assume there is little quality control in the kitchen. The food portion of our bill was about $130, not inexpensive but happy to pay that if the food is good. A real shame, it is a nice spot and we would like to support it as it provides added diversity to Kamloops dining - but not very...
