Restaurant
Good day one and all in Kelowna or those Driving thru Kelowna.
You will notice that a new Chinese Restaurant called the Dragon King has opened up on Harvey Ave. For those driving thru Kelowna keep going and for the people in Kelowna what ever you do take it from me use Bernard Ave so that you won't see this restaurant. This Restaurant if in fact it could be called that has to be among the worst. Now hear me out there was 1 fair to decent, now let me see what they were. Was the service Fair to decent no I asked for a diet drink never got it that took 15 minutes. Then another 5 minutes before anyone asked for our food order. 20 minutes later the food arrives well not really arrives we first get our Spring Rolls almost hot, about 5 minutes later the Barbeque Pork fried rice Served at room temp, a minute later the Sweet and Sour Boneless pork Warmer but not hot arrives, then 4 minutes later comes our Chicken Chow mein room temp, and finally after another 5 minute wait comes our Breaded Almond Chicken room temp. Now I can not say that the food tasted bad in fact it did taste okay but only if it was next day microwaved, and seeing as I paid for none microwaved food it was a disappointment I feel it was a total rip off I pointed out that I had not received my drink and believe it or not they did not charge me for it.This was the fair and decent thing to do. Now I paid for our meal and did not leave a tip at all and this is my right I tip for good service did not have I tip for good food I did not have as a result no tip was given. Some people will say this was unfair of me but I also do not tip the subway people the KFC people or any of the other Fast food Restaurants and their food was better and the service was better. So heed my warning and do not think do not contemplate any thought of trying this Restaurant.

Read moreAs I was concentrating on driving, my baby's mama told me she saw a restaurant called Dragon King. Since Kelowna is not known for its Asian influence, I dismissed it because the name doesn't sound authentic Chinese (you all know what I'm saying). However on my way back down the street in the other direction I noticed the detailed design of the building and was curious to find out more. Upon entering I was impressed by the interior decoration and had to give it a try with low expectations.
I give this restaurant my 5 stars as I've been here twice now and have brought some elders from my family who also approve. We had dimsum and also ordered the house special fried noodles (something we kind of use as a metric) and were satisfied.
I'm from Vancouver, a Chinese food capital of the world, and as a result, have been greatly aware of the difficulties in finding good Chinese restaurants by comparison throughout the rest of the world.
Despite not being located near an ocean for fresh seafood, there wasn't anything that we found to be unacceptable. One member of my family noted that Dragon King is far better than the place they went to in Auckland New Zealand which has a significant Asian population and is also near the ocean. Personally I would say that I haven't dared to eat at a Chinese restaurant in the USA (along the Pacific) for over a decade for the same reason.
The staff here are very good on top of that and the prices are what I consider "pre-pandemic Vancouver" which is about 15% lower. I have looked at other Kelowna Asian/Chinese restaurants reviews and driven past to compare but am fairly confident there is no competition overall....
Read moreLet me preface this by saying I come from a Chinese family and my family used to frequent Dragon King. We used to consider it the best Chinese food in Kelowna. I lived outside of Kelowna for the past 5 years and when I returned, my mother had informed me that Dragon King had gone downhill...I decided to try it out today for lunch/dim sum.
I ordered 1 har gow (shrimp dumpling), 1 bean curd steamed roll, 1 deep fried squid, and one chicken chow mein. The chow mein came out first and while it tasted okay, it's very "American" style chow mein. The chicken had an extremely strange texture and didn't seem all that fresh.
Next came out the squid. Honestly, this was just how I remember it and still tasted great. You can't really go wrong with deep fried food.
Next came the shrimp dumplings, my favourite part of dim sum. I was looking forward to it. I took the first bite and immediately noticed something was "off". Quite frankly, this was the worst har gow I've ever had. I couldn't even get a bite down. I don't usually send things back but I sent it back to the kitchen.
Afterward, the bean curd rolls came out and they tasted fine.
All in all, I can' t really speak for the current status of the rest of the menu but judging from the lunch I had today, I'd say stay away. It was also a very expensive lunch considering the quality.
In my time back in town, I've also gone to Yamato out near Wickerland for dim sum and it exceeded my expectations. The food was fresh and it was the most authentic dim sum I've had in Kelowna. If you're looking for dim sum, go...
